Arise! Sir Del Boy | Actor David Jason, who played wheeler dealer Del Boy in the BBC's Only Fools and Horses, has been knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
BBC Radio 2's Terry Wogan gets an honorary knighthood and actress Dame Judi Dench is a Companion of Honour.
There is an OBE for singer and Live 8 co-organiser Midge Ure, footballer Les Ferdinand gets an MBE and cricketer Basil D'Oliveira a CBE.
The 894-strong list also honours scores of "ordinary" people.
BBC correspondent Frank Gardner, who was injured by militants in Saudi Arabia last year, has been made an OBE for services for journalism. The reporter was shot six times at point-blank range in June 2004.
Sir David, who already has an OBE, was a TV favourite playing the role of Granville, the put-upon shop assistant in Ronnie Barker's Open All Hours.
But he achieved legend status as Derek "Del Boy" Trotter, followed by more successes in The Darling Buds of May and A Touch of Frost.
He said he was "delighted and humbled" to be made a sir.
"It is totally unexpected and I can only hope it will bring a little pleasure to the viewing public as it has brought great pleasure to me and my family."
Irish citizen Wogan also expressed "delight" at his honour.
The 66-year-old, who has been a fixture of the airwaves for 40 years, said: "I am surprised and delighted that Her Majesty has given me this honour. I hope I can prove worthy of it."
His award, an honorary knighthood, is given to non-British citizens who have made an important contribution to British life.
