Ok another c section question really! I had a vontuse delivery which lead to a 3rd degree tear 1st time which was the 6th Jan 2006 so just over a year ago i am 34 weeks now baby due 15th April 2007.
I have just been told i do after all have a choice of a c sec all the time I been told ur having one then last week no your not allowed this week you have a choice! I been messed around a lot and now as I have the choice and only 1 week to decide I don’t have a clue what to do! The positives and negatives of both are balanced really as the chance of tearing again could lead to in continents but then a c sec is major abdominal surgery i know no one else can make this decision but was wondering if any women who may of had a 3rd degree and had birth after could help me a little with what they did and thought?! and what they think now?

I haven't had a 3rd degree tear, however I have had 2 c-sections and 3 normal deliveries! my sections were with child 2 and 5. Even if you have had a section they have to be cautious as they have to test the scar, so if there is any scar tissue in the wrong place it could still cause complications. Yes a section is major surgery and if you want to recover to full strength then making good use of the first few weeks after delivery is hard. It will also mean you will not be able to pick your first lo up, not even for a cuddle without someone giving lo to you. It is a very hard decision, and I really do feel for you making it, but my 2 sections were emergency, and I was lucky my mom would come up to the house get fred out of bed and deal with him all day and only go home once he was settled in bed. That is how strict she was, but by the end of the 6 weeks although I was actually doing things myself, I knew that I had had the healing needed at the beginning. Good luck on your decision, as I know it's definitely a hard choice.

Hi there.
I dont envy your situation at all. Do your midwives have an opinion on what would be best as they have more experience at this? I had a C section with my son, it was an emergancy and I was desperate for a natural birth but the decision was taken out of my hands due to SPD. However due to the pain I was in and the fact induction wasnt working I was actually discussing the possibility of an elective section before the decision was taken away from me.
I was lucky as I had been wheelchair bound during my pregancy so I was actually more mobile following the section but it was difficult not being able to do all I wanted for my baby and I can imagine that could only be more difficult with a toddler.
I dont have an answer for you but I would say dont make any rushed decisions. Think it all through. Discuss it with you partner. You could have a perfectly fine natural birth this time. Saying that, despite it being a section, the birth of my son was still a beautiful experience. I was awake, my partner was sat next to me holding my hand and breastfed not long after the birth and continued to do so for 11 months so it in no way damaged the bonding process between me and my son.

Its a tough decision to make
Im sure bug tore badly 1st time & had liam fine 2nd time round so maybe she can giv u advice. My mum had a bad tear with my sister who was 8lb8oz then had my brother normal 16 months later, he was 9lb4 & she didnt tear with him
Maybe u need to look into why u needed a ventouse delivery & the chances of that happening again

I have never had a normal delivery but have had an emergency c-section and an elective c-section, they are major operations and do take alot of recovery, i managed quite well with both, but sometimes wish i had had another chance of normal delivery, but the fear is to much for me.
Prehaps you could discuss any fears you may have and then make your choice.

I had a small tear with my 2nd daughter and due to bad stitching then had to have surgery 6mnths later to repair all the scar tissue and restitch. When I was pregnant with my son I discussed this with the consultant and he said it was my choice, I did decide to go for a natural birth in the end having had 2 previously. In the end the decision was taken out of my hands as Oliver had other ideas and decided to be extended breach so I had a C section anyway. When I was pregnant late last year (ended in mc at 12wks) I was again given the choice and opted for natural unless again the baby was going to end up breach. I think for me I just wanted to have things simple and normal but nature often has other ideas.
A tough choice to make I guess you need to think about how painful your delivery was last time and weigh that up against a C section and resulting scar. Yes a C Section is major surgery but it is also routine surgery and very rarely has serious complications. hth

I just wanted to add if you do decide to go through with a section the buddy scheme (see below) is avaliable so you can have one-on-one support both before and afterwards with someone who understands what you are going through.

Hi i was in exactly the same situation as you. I had a 3rd degree tear with my daughter. When I was expecting my son 4 years later, C section was never discussed and I was suppose to try and have him naturally.Anyway he had other ideas and i had to have an emergency c section. I was told afterwards that I would most probably had to have had a c section anyway as they didn't realise the scarring was so bad.
My 3rd baby was born nearly 2 years ago. I was giving the chioce of trying for a natural delivery or a c section. After much discussion I went for an elective c section.I found it a very positive experience and the best birth of the 3. I can't tell you what to do, but hopefully you have a good midwife and consultant who can help you reach a decision. Best of Luck Nicky

Hi hun i wasn't given a choice. I had to have a c/section either way as i was carrying identical twins in the same sac. They said having them natural would cause too many complications and they could even try to come out together. In the end i ended up with an emergency section. My girls were 8 weeks prem so they had to stay in the hospital for 4 weeks. I ended up with an infection in my scar tissue but i think that was due to doing far too much and not resting. I was still in the hospital at the time so i was in the best place. You can't drive for 6 weeks after you have had a section and they are very stricked on what you can or can't do. To be honest i never really got a choice as i was travelling everyday to and from the hospital and doing everything i could possible with my girls. To be honest i should have rested more than i did but i don't listen lol...
Anyway sorry can't help with the natural birth as i only have my girls. It is major surgery and theres loads you are not meant to do after having a section. In the end though its down to you. xxxx
