Grrr...I went over to see DH's relative and her baby yesterday with MIL. Ellie will chew anything put in her mouth so I usually give her something to play with (rattle or something) - my MIL always just sticks her own fingers in Ellie's mouth and then says "ooh, I don't know why you like doing that, it must taste awful!" - I know this is pathetic but it goes thru me, it just isn't hygeinic!! She does usually wash her hands first but she didn't yesterday, and then we had custard slices and she got a bit of custard on her finger and gave it to Ellie!! - which also pissed me off. She hadn't washed her hands for over an hour! She's not got short fingernails either and she's got cats so I'm always a bit dubious as to how well she cleans them - I didn't say anything because I didn't want to cause a scene but I was so mad that last night I dreamt about it!! I don't think it's bad if I put my (CLEAN) fingers in Ellie's mouth - she's my daughter!!! but when MIL does it, it really makes me feel ill - I'm going to be brave and tell her next time she does it to give Ellie something else to chew and that it just isn't clean - I'm such a wuss, I don't want to offend her!! Sorry for the pathetic rant...!! lol

It's ok to rant, greedy. I know where you're coming from, but don't worry about it too much. I'm sure the last thing your mil wants to do is make your lo ill and you upset.
A little bit of dirt doesn't do them any harm. Crikey, Max was always shoving dirt and sand in his mouth. He is always outside so I dread to think what bugs he's got. Plus, we lived in a third world country for the 2 years of his life.
It helps to build up their immune system, but at the same time we have to be sensible about what they get hold off!

or greedy hun, i wont even put my finger in leo's mouth so i know where your coming from. i'd be just as mad but the thing is hun please dont bottle it up. if you are not happy with something that involves your dd then say.... otherwise this behavier will carry on.
I've learnt to open my mouth now instead of just keeping stom.

Don't start me on MIL's this week! My once lovely MIL has turned into a normal MIL since the birth of Ollie. I had an unwarranted lecture on credit cards (I don't even have one) and also a lecture on budgeting! That will teach me to lament the fact I have to go back to work and leave Ol.
It's so hard though isn't it to stand up to parents and outlaws when it comes to our children. I just really hope that when my children have children I remember how they made me feel and ask before I do something and try not to interfere.
I have to say my Mum was actually really good when she stayed and asked before she did anything new with Ollie but then I kind of have a role reversal with my mother most of the time now.
