I'm hearing you on the MIL thing! I had to have a "chat" with mine the other day cos I'd reached the end of my charitable-ness! I feel bad cos her Mum has just died and for the last 10 years, she's been caring for dying loved ones (DH's Dad died 6 years ago, her Dad 2 years ago and her Ma this year). But, Ella is my child and theres only so much I can put up with! I was fed up with her procratinating about her "imature digestive system" and her "chunkyness" grrrrrrrrr And also that no matter how many times I tell her to hold the bottle so that the milk is in the teat, she ignores me! I use Nuk teats and the hole is in the top of the teat so if you don't, SHE CAN'T GET THE MILK!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!

And relax....!

I also bought her a bottle of Milton handwash from the chemist (the stuff you rub on your hands without needing water) - not a subtle hint, but it did the job!!

I have a great MIL but every time we speak (once a week at least) she asks if I am still breastfeeding, and sounds surprised when I say I am.  I intend to go 6 months fully and then spend another month just night feeds.  She knows this, but still asks and I'm starting to fel paranoid, like I shouldnt!

Aww don't feel paranoid MamaD, you are doing great.  I am still feeding Ollie and intend to carry on as long as I can.  The latest guide lines say 1yr now.  My MIL keeps asking me if Ollie is good  am tempted to say no he is running a mock around the neighbourhood.

I think sometimes they don't mean to sound like they do but things are done differently now than they used to be and I am sure when our children have babies they will be different again.  It's a kind of disbelieving curiousness, after all we all survived so they can't see why we don't do what they used to.

lol, so glad it's not just me!  she's not bad really but she does say and do some peculiar things and I'm the kind of person who is "anything for a quiet life!" - DH has took Ellie round to hers this morning so no doubt her fingers are in her mouth as we speak lol.  I agree completely about the "are you still breastfeeding?" thing - my step MIL (yes I have 2 MILs!!!!!!!! aren't I the lucky one?) does this every time and the "OH?!" reply never fails to make me laugh.... I'm going to say "no" next time and I bet I'll get the same response lol.  My own mother thinks that all Health Visitors should be put against a wall and shot - she couldn't believe it when I said they recommend weaning at 6 months now - "You were all weaned at 3 months and it's not done you any harm"  blah blah blah

Oh God yeah, both my mum and MIL keep asking me why I haven't weaned yet.  BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO!!!   Ohhh, it's driving me mad (spoke to MIL today and she asked AGAIN).  Now when I complain that my LO isnt sleeping I get a long silence then, 'well maybe she's hungry, are you sure you're producing enough?'  Oh course then I panic and start wondering if they could be right - neither mum nor MIL breastfed, so why do I always assume they know what they are talking about.......
