well daisy has started to wake 2am and 6am for the day this doesn't happen every night some nights she goes down at 7-8 and sleeps all night till 7-8 her routine is always changing by her not me, i do keep her solid meals the same time each day but it doesn't seem to make much diff I'm going to give the Gina ford routine a go just brought the new contented little baby book has any 1 tried this method??

from reading it i can see it makes sense but find some of it a bit strict like waking a baby for feeding times etc but  this must be done to get a good routine going

i will give it ago and let you know how it goes not starting properly until Tuesday when kiddies go back to school as i feel it will just be unnecessary stress for us all and if shes not happy on it i will take her off and Carrie on as we are now i don't want things to change to dramatically for her so over the next 3 days hoping to get half of the feeding times that it recommends started

wish me luck as i will need it

My cousin swares by Gina Ford and it has worked really well for her and her baby.  Personally I think it's a little to rigid.  Most babies thrive on routine so it may well work for you.

I keep Ollies meal times within the same hour and also his sleep times.  Trying to get him into a good routine before I return to work.  I don't want him in such a rigid routine that it throws him to much if we decide to have a day out or something.

That book made me feel a failure, I was given a copy of it, and Fred has got himself into a routine like it on his own, he slept at the wrong time for today, and I ended up having to give his usual feed at 2 just over an hour aftr his last feed.  If it works for you then great, but I can't stick to it like glue, as he hates having a late feed, he's happier going through from 7pm til 7am, however I am going to give changing his routine a go, just so I can have the occasional lie-in!

I gave it a go but couldn't stick to it-but I really believe that it would have been worth the effort to keep trying-as mumsam says babies thrive on routine. Good luck!

We tried to the Gina Ford Routine for a day  when Max was first born.

I'm glad to say we now use the book as a door stop!

What a load of rubbish.

What works for some peeps may not work for others, and vice versa.

Personally I think all these books are good and bad.  I read the Baby Whisperer when Ollie was about 3mnths old and it made me feel totally crap.  I think Tracey Hogg was fairly laid back in her approach to babies but it's just the way the book made me feel.  I couldn't get Ollie to stick to some of the routines and that made me feel like I was doing something wrong.  In the end I put the book away and carried on with my own routine.  Like has been said what works for one person probably won't for the next person.

It's the same as "good advice" listen/read and then adapt to your own way of life.  I think also programmes on the tv like Nanny 911 or Supernanny get us a little paniced.  We see these terrible toddlers and want to avoid that happening to our children.  The chances are most of us won't have those sorts of problems or extreme problems with our children.

I just hope that we don't forget to enjoy our babies and relax a little with them whilst trying to do our best.

I think the best routine is your own routine

Your baby will guide you (most of the time) so just follow it, its not the end of the world if you and your lo dont have a routine.

we dont have a set routine i just try and make sure he has his feeds roughly around the same time and that he goes to bed within a set hour

Good luck with whatever you choose!!

Me and Ed has a sort of routine but it is determined by what time he gets up, not by any set times in the day. Until his last feed which is always roughly the same time.

We go out alot so it is hard to stick to a routine and Edward doesnt seem to mind so we kindof go with the flow.

I'm not a routine kind of gal so I new Gina Ford wouldnt work for me! I never even bothered to read it. I did read baby wisperer and used some of her suggestions but mainly I do what comes natural for me.

Good luck though hun, I hope it solves your problems!

xxx
