Hi all.

I need some advice please. My girls have been pulling their hair out (Lauren now has no hair on one side of her head and on the back, Ashleigh has bald patches)

This started on xmas day and I took them to the docs and they said it was a habit (after doing various blood tests) The only advice they could give me, was to cut their hair as short as possible and hopefully this will break the habit. We're now in April and if anything it has got worse for Lauren.

We're going to cut their hair again today, but it's really upsetting me now, when we go anywhere people are starting to comment.

Has anyone got any ideas? We've tried telling them to stop, but this makes them do it more. We've tried ignoring it, mittens, which they woll not keep on, nothing seems to work.

I know at 19 months, it's not really an issue, but I'm desparate to stop it before starting school or playschool (we all know how cruel kids can be).

x

i watched a programe on this hun, and for this person it was some sort of disorder (she was actually bald all over), molly has done it a few times when shes had a paddy but only a few strands have come out!!! other than keeping there hair cut short i wouldnt know what to suggest i think i would make another appointment with your gp and say how much worse its became, hopefully this is a phase and soon be over -goodluck and let us know how you get on xx jue xx

My niece used to do this and now at 10 she has lovely long hair. My sister got her a doll with long hair so she could pull that out instead, but it had to feel like real hair.

Gosh, I've never heard of this.

The only thing I can think of is have you tried taking them shopping for hair accesories and making a fuss over it, then showing themselves in a mirror to see how pretty they look?

Or get them a styling head.

Other than thatI can imagine how upsetting it is to see.  Do they do it without realisng they're doing it or is done in temper?

chester did this and at one point she had no fringe at all,

she dident pull her hair out with her hands she twisted her hair around her dummy and yanked it out, but i knew the reason she was doing it cos me and dp were in hospital for 2 wks with joshua when he was ill and she was staying at her nans so when i came home from the hospital i threw the dummies in the bin and she never did it again.

hope they stop soon hun.
