I didn't have a section but I too had an epidural with DD which was a complete failure, it had to be resited and even then not sure if was placed correctly.  I now get pain in the site and the discs around it, which were bad anyway have deteriorated but not necessarily due to the epidural.

I am looking at a potential section with this bub and will need to talk to my consultant in the next week or so about my options as it could be either spinal or general.  However what I have been told is that the placement of a spinal block tends to be higher up than that for an epidural as they need to achieve different things and the concentrations being different as well.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has a number of guidance documents on sections etc which may give greater insight - I would warn her to discuss all the info with her mw or consultant as some of it can be a bit medical.  If interested see the birth section under http://guidance.nice.org.uk/topic/gynaecology

I had a spinal block when I had Ols by C section.  They hit my nerve as they sited the catheter which shot a pain down my leg that really hurt it was like and electric shock.  Didn't feel a thing during the op no tugging or anything.  Had a reaction to the morphine and needed piriton afterwards. I was out of hospital the day after my csection.  My lower back was quite painful and felt bruised for a long time afterwards.  I do have scoliosis though so it was a lot harder for them to site the catheter in the right place and also makes me more prone to back ache lower down.

I had two epidurals.  The first one with tasja, took the bloke 7 attempts and and hour and half to get it in.  I was fast losing patience (me as if) and basically told the bloke as he attempted number 7..if you dont get it right this time, im going to turn my head round and do it my sodding self!  Or words along those lines.  I was interviewed the next day as it had taken them so long to get it right, and was warned that having an epidooodle can cause back pain in future...yeah whatever, dont care now, not in pain anymore..look ickle baby.  Ive still got the scars on my back from the botched attempts..so that when i had isla and the guy came in all jolly to do my epidooodle, took one look at my back and said...well that makes my life easier..which one do I pick...i think my response was something along the lines of 'the right one, and you get one chance at it mate', but im sure you can figure out what i exactly said lol.

The only thing ive noticed is that my lower back aches more than it did pre-epidooodles, but then i do more now lifting, up and downing than i did before i had kids.
