Joshua had his preschool booster on Monday. He DIDNT have the MMR booster, just the usual vaccinations.

He never reacted to a single one of his earlier vaccines, including the first MMR. After this vaccination he seemed fine. He ate very little dinner, but this isnt totally unusual for Joshua, he then slept well.

Tuesday Joshua woke complaining of aching all over, having heard this story more than once I packed him off to school as usual. I then got a call from school saying that he was extremely drowsy and not well. By the time I picked him minutes later he was floppy and had a soaring temperature. At home I gave him calpol and he fell asleep. After some hours he became clammy to touch, and although his temperature was down he wasnt well still and I rang the NHS direct helpline. They said it did not sound like a reaction to his vaccines, more likely to be a viral infection. I was advised regular calpol, lots of fluids and rest.

Despite seeming to wake up without any indication of being unwell yesterday I kept him off school as a precaution. Yesterday afternoon he became grumpy and moody, but no temperature or fever symptoms. I did however, notice that below the injection mark is now a large red area. I hadnt even thought about the injection I thought he had knocked himself and asked what he had done. He remarked saying nothing, it was just sore from his needle, then I realised it was the same area. It is a relatively large red area, not blotchy like a rash, more like a pressure mark and its warm to the touch.

He still has this mark today, and although he still doesnt have any of the fever symptoms he displayed on Tuesday he is really not himself. he is tired all the time, slept for 3 hours this afternoon, completely out of character. He is very whiney and grumpy, again out of character. He has no temperature, but as advised by NHS the other day I have maintained calpol regulary.

I cant seem to pin point what is the matter with him. There is so many bugs going around. My biggest concern is if he has a bug and I let him have the injection, we've heard before on this site and media sources how this has had devasting and fatal consequences. However Im not convinced these symptoms arent related to the injection, despite what the NHS says.

If Joshua had had the MMR booster, I would be more inclined to say oh its just a reaction to the injection, but this was just a normal booster, and he has never reacted before. The mark is still under the injection point, still relatively large but hasnt grown any since yesterday. Its also still warm to touch.

Am I just fretted over nothing?

What do you mean normal booster Chris which injection was it?  I've noticed with Fred he tends to be tired for a week or so, and has a huge red mark round it, not  rash but a slightly raised red bit that is lovely and warm (well he usually gets them in winter and I get a hot water bottle! lol)  The red before now has measured 3-4 inches.  I'd contact the gp if you are worried or ask your hv to visit as she will be able to help!  hope he gets well soon!

Sounds a bit of a coincideance that this has happened after his jab. Like Vix says, I'd ask hv to come or take him to the doctors just to be on the safe side. NHS are ok, but they can't see whats going on. Hope he feels better soon. Take care x

Erm Vix it was the whooping cough, polio teternus and diptheria one.

The red mark is still there today and grump is still grumpy! The mark measures a good 4/5 inches in width and about 3 inches in deepth. Its not raised, and its about 2cm under the injection area. The injection is a tiny tiny spot and not raised either.

Im off to my mum's today, I'll get her to look at it for me lol
