At present child tax credits are paid per pregnancy so any parent having twins or more only get the same allowance as a single baby.  The rate paid for the first year does not change whether you have 1 baby or 5 babies born in one pregnancy.  There is a petition if you want to support getting the unfair law changed:

I never knew about it either until I came across it whilst trawling the net looking for info on twins (don't tell my mw).  It doesn't really make sense it's not like anyone goes out of their way to have more than one baby per pregnancy and they are being penalized for it really.
