My nearly 1 year old son drinks from the avent magic cup, which has handles.  The only thing is he's now refusing to hold it for himself, and wants me to do it!  He started off holding the handles and drinking from it himself but now just refuses.  I don't want him to go without any fluids so I tend to do this for him.  Any advice as to how I can get him back to holding the cup?  Maybe I should change cups, or is it just a phase he's going through?

Thanks

has he seen you holding a baby and feeding that? i ask because molly a few weeks ago seen me feeding my friends baby and that night she wanted me to feed her lol (shes just over 2) i didnt and she soon gave herself her milk but i think she was pretending to be a baby,

i would just refuse to hold it, it that way if he is thirsty he will most definitely start giving it himself, the more you hold it hun the more he will rely on you to do it - goodluck jue xxx

A day without much fluids isn't going to do him any harm.  He will drink when he is ready but you have to stay constant.  Winston is coming up for 10 months, and Fred(2) goes through phases where he wants me to do it for him, but I refuse point blank, and he does it himself.  It seem heartless to some and it may hurt your feelings in the short term, but in the long run it will be for the best!

I would suggest the same, refuse to do it. If he has done it before then he is capable and therefore if he really wants it he will reach for it. Maybe try a bit of gentle persuasion with a new beaker, one suitable for his level but with a new picture on or something, let him choose but then he has to be a big boy and do it himself. Maybe move him onto a "big boy" cup with a lid and straw instead of teated cup.

oh wow...i love this weaning stage...and having to figure out what is right or not right is just fun isnt it?? kaitlyn's just trying to learn of the different flavors nature can bring to her taste buds at the moment...i tried to give her the 3 month old sippy bottle with no handles but she has to suck it differntly where nothing came out and she cried...so i guess you have to try different products as you say.
