Joshua was at the peadiatrics outpatients a few weeks back after being admitted to hospital with severe tonsilitous a few weeks earlier. It wasnt the first time he had tonsilitous, in fact he has it quite regulary. The peadictrician said that his tonsils were very large, even when not infected and so he wanted the ENT specialist to see them. I thought I'd have to wait for a while but an appointment came through rather quickly and he was seen earlier this week. The ENT specialist agreed that he had very large tonsils and given the amount of tonsilitous he has had it would be better to take them out before they became a major problem or distruption to him. I agreed, I'd rather tham out now while he wont really suffer, than later in life having missed chunks of school and suffered for a few years. Plus it hurts more as you get older.

I didnt ask about a waiting list as its not being done as any form of emergancy so I was just going to wait for the letter. However, my boss, who loved this news after my recent sickness absence lol, wanted to know roughly when she should expect me to need time off. I telephoned the hospital today to ask how long thr waiting list was and the receptionist said about 3 months. Mentally calculating it I realised that would mean end of August start of September and the last thing I wanted was time off school as soon as he goes back. She put me through to the ENT secretary who said that she will make a note and try arrange to have Joshua's operation carried out in August. I cant believe the list is so short, I thought it'd be about 8 months or more waiting.

Once we get a date I'll update everyone, but looks like it wont be much waiting!

Hayley had her tonsils out when she was 12 and it wasn't very pleasant for her so much better to get them done whilst he is younger.  I had mine out when I was 18 and it really wasn't nice.  The NHS are meant to be getting the waiting lists for all operations down to around a 3-4mnth wait.  Lots of Jelly and Ice Cream and he will be fine.

I had mine out when I was 11 after many years of suffering. I'd rather them whip them out before it gets to that stage. They do say the younger the better, so hopefully it wont hurt to much, but in the long run it will reduce the suffering!

Although when I had mine out it was toast and fish fingers after surgery.. no jelly and ice cream.. lol They said it helps heal the throat quicker.. I'll be very jealous if he gets ice cream pmsl

Once you've got ast the first waiting list hun the waits up here aren't usually too long, and the ENT section are fantastic!  On to of that hospital food isn't as bad as it was back then either! lol He should be able to have loads of ice cream it numbs the throat and any pain he's suffering! :-P   Glad you got it sorted

Hope it sorts his problems out. A couple of years ago i needed a major ent op and I was allowed to choose when I went in.They can be flexible if you ask.

Don't they try and make them eat rough food after the op nowadays like crisps or am I thinking of something else.

Bless him. Have you told him yet? Hows he taking it? Like you have said its better that he has them out now rather than later. Sometimes i wish they would take mine out. As you remember i had it severe last year on my birthday and it made me sick all day too.

Keep me informed hun. At least though its not a huge waiting list like it is over here lol. The sea air and all that must be better over there. xxx
