We'd be lying if we said it didn't hurt, but it's probably not like you're imagining. It's very difficult to describe, and it's different for everyone, and even different for the same person with different pregnancies. The way to look at it is that it really can't be that bad, cos no-one would have more than one baby otherwise would they?!
The thing is to be prepared. If your surgery offers them, go to ante-natal classes and find out about all the different pain relief that's available so that you know what you want when the time comes. It is nerve-racking hearing about people being in labour for days. I know I was terrified, but what I hadn't realised is that it isn't hours and hours of constant pain, the contractions come and go, and it's possible to be in labour for quote some time without even realising it. My labours started with just a twinge in my back, and the first time I thought I'd just slept funny, until I realised that it was coming and going. It does get bad, but there is plenty of help available if you want it. And the second you hold your baby in your arms, you forget it all anyway. Honest.
(At least until you need the loo...
)
You'll be fine. Really.
