I can honestly say.. if you have a longish labour, it doesn't hurt as much as a short one.. my last was 1 hr 48 mins, and it was the most painful, but my first and second which were 8 and 5 hours hurt a lot less..

I think the most painful bit is when you hit the transition stage, last couple of cm's.. thats when things move a lot quicker and the contractions last a bit longer, it did for me anyways.. thats how i knew my baby would nearly be born. If you wanna scream and shout, then do it.. i woke my neighbour up (home birth with my 3rd) luckily she has kids so she knows what its like.

If i can get thro 3 of them, anyone can do it.. im such a wuss when it comes to pain.. me and pain don't get on.. hate it.

like its been said before, if you can't cope with the pain.. ask for pain relief, no one will think any less of you if you ask.. thats what its there for!!!

I can remember worrying about the pain with my first, but it was nothing like i had imagined.. it wasn't as bad.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and fingers crossed you have a reletivly pain free labour!!

I had 2 natural births, I used the birthing pool for pain relief.

If I can do it anyone can!

It is the most intense experience of life, and no one can describe how you feel when your baby is in your arms.

My first baby was also a surprise!

And so is this third wee one I have in my oven!

Welcome to madmums, xxx

Pain is so very confusing topic..as many of us can agree with, the pain can be just familiar as it is for your last two weeks.. just as for me, i kept hurting at home, went in for false labor LOL..and then when the real thing hit, it was stronger and more consistent pains.. but i was the same as , more nervous than scared..or is it the same? no, that day i just wanted the baby out..so not so much scared as i was a week before that.  i had the epidural so pretty much slept til i was fully dilated and felt the urge to push...felt more like needing to use the poddy really bad and there was relief once she was out... i felt very light and pain free from the old areas and new pain of just way down there...heehee that was taken care of with pain meds

Hiya,

I was really looking forward to having my baby when I was pregnant then just a few before I too was getting really scared and nervous about it all because I didn't know what to expect and heard loads of horror stories.

In the end, after having my daughter, the labour was ok. Of course it was painful at times but it's nothing like the stories that I  had heard. People are different in all inds of ways, some can take certain pains and others can't (if you know what I mean) I actually enjoyed my first labour but not so much with my 2nd, lol.

I'm sure you will be fine and once you have your son/daughter in your arms you will forget all about the pain an everything
