Have you ever herd of tonsillitis and a rash? My son, 20 months has had tonsillitis twice now but he has been really poorly this time. I took him to the doctors last Friday as he had a red rash all over and the doctor said is was part of the tonsillitis? He has not had any antibiotics just calpol, so I'm sure its not the medication. I just wondered if anyone else has seen this before. Thanks in advance xx

Sorry hun, I cant really help you as none of my kids have ever had it but sure someone else will be able to help. Also try doing a search online, I'm sure you'll find plenty of information that'll help.

Thank you Strawberry!
I think I will have a look online, but thought it would be difficult to find out if a rash is common when suffering with tonsillitis. Thanks for you quick response and advise, I'll go surffin later! xx

Tonsillitis is most often caused by a virus which can often cause a rash in children.

As your doctor did not prescribe any antibiotics, it probably means that there was no pus on his tonsillitis (which would have meant a bacterial infection).

So, yes tonsillitis and a rash most definitely can go together!

HTH,

Kirsty

OH THANK YOU Very Much!!!

I feel so much better for knowing that. I can rest easy now, knowing he his normal. All I hope is that my children get through their illnesses as quickly as possible and hope that they react to illnesses in a similar way as others.
My faith in GP's is not good at the best of times, and if he had taken the time to explain as you have, I would not have left the surgery so worried.

Thanks again, I now know that a rash could point to his tonsillitis and will keep an eye on both.

I have only just found my user name for madmums, thankfully, and will be posting more often...what a great site, I'm so impressed with the speedy reply!!

My son suffers often with tonsilitis, he'll be having them out in a few weeks. He always gets a viral rash when it starts. Earlier this year the rash got so bad, and he was so poorly they didn't even know what was wrong and rushed him to hospital, and it just ended up being a viral rash and as soon as that went he got a nasty bacterial bout of tonsilitis (hence now they are whipping them out)

Try and make sure he gets plenty of fluid, dont worry too much if he doesnt eat (his throat will be sore whichever he has). If he doesn't seem to be getting better in a couple of days, or develops white or pus spots in his mouth/ back of the throat take him back to your GP he might need antibiotics.

Hope he is feeling more like himself soon! Lots of calpol and tlc and Im sure he'll bounce back on his feet in no time xxxx

Oh Great, thanks ladies. I didn't realise rashes were so common when suffering with tonsillitis. There is no history of it in my family, so I am blissfully ignorant. He has got it from his Dads side, who all suffer with it. I'm surprised he didn't know that rashes were common.
Not sure if this is related, but I'm not feeling too good myself. My eyes hurt when I move them and I feel like I'm getting flu, but have been like this since Friday and no flu yet. My throat is sore, so maybe I have got it too? Having never had it I don't know what it feels like. I thought at 26 I would have had trouble before now if I was going to. Just a bit concerned as DD is only 11weeks old, and don't want her to catch it too. I am right in thinking its contagious arnt I?

Thanks again ladies!

You may be a bit run down, seeing as your wee one is so young.  Perhaps the two of you have a bit of a virus at the same time.  See your doc and get something for yourself.  If your breastfeeding your wee one she'll have your antibodies which will help her immune system fight wee colds and the like.  Just try and get rest and take lots of fluids.  Hope you feel better soon xxx
