What were you doing on this dreadful day?

I was in USA at the time.  We flew out to Orlando, Florida on the 9th September 2001.  Not knowing what kind of holiday it was going to turn out to be!
We were in Back to the Future Restaurant and there were numerous TV screens around!  CNN was on with the headline "NEW YORK BOMBED!"  My Dad looked up and just said
"It's amazing what they can do with technology these days..."

Not knowing, onced people were out the restaurant they were in a sea of people being evacuated.  Huge men were carrying Gigantic crates of bottles of water for people - just handing them out.  We just looked out the doors and gasped!  This was happening, This is reality!

Anyhoo, after we eventually got out NOWHERE was open!  We were in the hotel room just watching the huge TV screen.  On every channel was footage of the attacks, and people jumping out of windows!!  We were all in tears, not knowing what to make of it all.  When the maids came in - my parents were like no dont worry bout the room.  And they stayed for a while and spoke about one of their cousins who was in NY, she hadn't got a hold of her yet.  The devestation was unreal.  People on the streets were hugging, it was like everyone was family!  There were lots of talk about a concert that we watched.  It was so nice but really emotional.

On the plane home our baggage was set to one small bag MAX.
The flight was ok, it was a wee bit scary to actually step on the plane, but security was everywhere and didn't seem to miss a thing.

That was my September 11th - 4 years on.

I hadn't noticed the date either.

I was sat in the carpark at Uni in Bristol when I had a text message from a friend to say about the bombings in the US.

I'm another who hadnt noticed the date.

I was on a train Pregnant with Harry, going to visit my mum in Torquay, when a guy who was on his lapton announced, what was then the first plane had hit.

It was mad everybody just started talking and crowding round this guy and his laptop, its weird as normally nobody speaks to each other on public transport but that was different, i met my mum when we eventually got in to Torquay and went back and watched the news for the rest of the day!

Soooo sad

I was working in London in an office block called Archway Tower ironically enough.

The whole workforce came to a standstill whilst we listened to the news.

It brings shivers up my spine thinking about the tragedy.

My housemates at the time were working for Cantor Fitzgerald one of the worse affected businesses hit by deaths in the twin towers.

Very sad day.

I was decorating the spare room with DH, and we just sat glued to the tellie. One of my colleagues was in new york on holiday and had been due to tour the world trade center that day. She was held up on her way there, so was OK.

Horrid, horrid day...

I was at work and everyone was talking about it - afterwards, I went to the Trafford Centre (huge shopping centre in manchester) and watched it all unfold on all the TV screens in Selfridges - it was very weird to see the same terrible images on loads of TVs all at once - when I got home I was sick, I couldn't believe what had happened - even now when I see the pictures of the towers falling, I can't believe it isn't a film.. it's so awful.
