I have thrush and I don't mean the song bird. It's blooming sore and itchy. I am now into the 2 wk wait, I know you can use the cream and you can't use the oral tablet but can you use the pessary. Don't tell me to see a dr it's saturday tomorrow and I have had enough of dr's poking around down there. Failing that I am resorting to yoghurt tomorrow, have been walking like John Wayne all day.

I have the info leaflet from the canestan pessary box here and it says "If you are pregnant or planning a family, tell your doctor or pharmacist before using canestan pesseries. If you have informed your doctor or phamacist, follow their instructions carefully. During pregnancy, extra care should be taken using the applicator"
I do know of someone who used cansetan pesseries when pregnant on the advice of her doctor. I'd talk to the pharmacist tomorrow and see what the risks are if any, and ask for their secret instructions that aren't included in the box...!

Sorry, I missed this one Sam. I'm sure it's fine for you to use the pessary, I've been prescribed it twice since being pregnant. I think you just have to be very careful when inserting it.

i used both whilst pg, but not in the first 3 months... so not sure if its safe.. the pessary i was prescribed was a lower strength one to the normal one u get over the counter.. i did find out the hard way, if ur pg, a chemist won't give u it without a prescription, i had to wait a couple days to see the doc.

I would also say discuss it with a pharmacist. Did you resort to the yoghurt? I haven't had thrush in a long time, but I did used to suffer (although wasn't ttc or pregnant) I found what really helped me was a warm bath with a good measure of vinegar. This may help the itching, but wont clear the infection. You will need to take something to clear that because even the creams dont clear it. Hope it settles quickly for you.

How are you feeling?
Thrush is horrid anyway without having to worry about ttc at the same time. Could you speak to your gp on the phone? (avoids any more poking about) or phone NHS direct.
I did find this online:
If thrush occurs in the first three months of pregnancy, your doctor
will probably not want to prescribe you anything. Some of the following
remedies might be helpful.
• Apply witch-hazel compresses or ice packs to the inflamed area.
• Eat natural live yogurt which should restore the proper bacterial
balance in your vagina. However, you will have to wait a while for
relief from the itching.
• Wear cotton underwear.
• Avoid long hot baths, which provide the ideal warm, moist environment in which the bacteria flourish.

I had the pessary that is just a tube of cream that squirts well you can guess where. Feeling much more comfortable. I still have a very sore bit where it blistered and now stings alot. I can't eat yoghurt as part of my UC is dairy intolerance. I don't have baths, I already ware cotton underware (who would want to ware nylon underware...) Have you ever put witch hazel near thrush!! You wouldn't make the same mistake twice.....
