Dh and I have sat last night and have decided to ttc in august when We get home from New York. I don't think we ever be ready at this point, we keep changing our minds.

I know all about your fertile days and ovulation and and mucus and so on but what I don't know is about the base line temperature. I know that there is a rise in temp when you ovulate. How long do you need to map this or is it necessary.....do you use all methods (temp, mucus, ovulation kits) or just one ?

My cycle ranges from 26 to 28 days...so far I think I ovulate in day 14.

The other question I want to ask is that my friend just told me she is 9  weeks pg so am I being selfish going again while she is expecting. this is her first baby and there is a group of 5 of us that have been very close friends since school.

Any one got kids with a 2 1/2 year age gap ? am I nuts going again so soon ?

I use bbt, cervical position. cervical fluid and opk's.  Most of the time they coralate and indicate the same time for ovulation.  Ocassionaly opk's indicate ovulation but then it doesn't happen for 48hrs afterwards.  My chart is here if you would like to look at it.  Your baseline temp changes slightly month to month depending on your temps prior to ovulation and post ovulation.  Your luteal phase (post ovulation) doesn't tend to vary by more than 1-2 days a month it will always be roughly the same.  Pre ovulation can change if you are ill, stressed or have done alot of travelling especially overseas to a different time zone.  You can use one method or all methods depends how confident you feel with any one method.  The only true way to tell if you have ovulated without having an ultrasound is to chart your bbt.

As for age gaps there was 4 yrs between my daughters as it took me 3yrs to fall pregnant.  Ollie is 2 1/2 and we have been trying for a year now.  Only you can decide when it's a good time to conceive.

I also wouldn't leave trying to conceive because of a friends circumstances.  You have to do what you feel is right for you and your family.

I haven't really got a lot to add on from what others have said, but just wanted to say again, you do what is right for you. We are going to start ttc very soon and everybody has told me (mum, dad, brother etc) that I shouldn't because the girls are still so young. But when I actually sat down and thought about it, I don't think anytime is going to be the right time and if I waited for the right time, it would never happen.

Sorry I've rambled on a bit, but just wanted to say that.

  As the others have said only you and dh know when the time is right and there really isn't an ideal gap.I have 4 years between dd and ds1 and then 9 years between ds1 and Harry. Big gaps, but still problems just a different kind to someone who has a smaller gap.

   Good luck with whatever decision you make and don't let your friends affect your decision.
