Well off starts another round of hospital trips!  I'm up at the local one (35 miles away again), for both the 2 little ones to get their bloods taken!  Now Winston is used to it, but so far Fred hasn't had to have a blood test, so I am taking mom with me to hold him! lol Yes I'm chicken but I really am dreading it!  We should find out what it means with Winston's iron levels, and whether I'll have anything to worry about again!  And for Fred it's just for peace of mind to find out whether he's anaemic as he is very pale, and mom raised the concern, as did the doc he saw the other week!  So I'll be on the phone with the hospital later on tomorrow to make sure I get it all written down! lol  I must remember to take the chocolate buttons with me!

Owen had his blood taken two weeks ago and to be honest I was dreading it.

It was really ok once the anathestic cream (can't spell) took effect, the nurse brought out a big book and hid the arm/hand that they were drawing blood from. he didn't feel a thing or notice what was happening as he couldn't see. My dh and I read the book in really silly voices and that seemed to distract him.

I would rather give blood etc than see anything like that done to Owen as I tend to get upset but I was quite calm this time.

Hope it goes well xx

Good luck Vix. I hope both boys behave and you get the answers you need for them both.

(I'd have taken my mum too, just in case)

Lol mumsam, wondered what the real name was!  We have always called it magic cream.

Well we got there for 10am, then they decided that they would use the 'magic' cream on Fred, so they put that on, and we had to go away for an hour waiting for it to work!  However when we got back little Fred was an angel, no problems whatsoever!  Even the nurse couldn't get over how good he was, he didn't flinch at all!  Winston on the other hand was an absolute nightmare.  She tried to use the vein in his left hand, that didn't work, he had no visible vein on his right one, nor his left arm, so next they tried his right arm!  10 minutes later still not a drop of blood! pmsl  In the end they decided he had to have the blood taken from his foot!  He was already squawking by this time, so out came the buttons (they were supposed to be for Fred), by the time we had emptied the pack (well mommy needed one for watching the nasty doctor) they had just about managed to get the right amount of blood out!  Poor little mite!

Now I have been in touch with the hospital but not all the results are back!  However Winston's platelets are at an all time low for him!  Very near to the 400 they are supposed to be they came in at 433!  So as you can imagine I am well chuffed with that, both boys iron levels look ok at the hgb level, but we are awaiting the ferritin level to find out about any anaemia!

OOOh vix, you are brave getting thru that one.  Im glad youve come out the other side and now got most of the results.

My Briana had to have bloods taken at our gp who said they use emla, then she got there and they said we are supposed to be given it beforehand to put on at home, which we was not given, hence they did the blood test with nothing! I was so annoyed, as dh took her so I didnt know and when she got out she was sick everywhere in the car with the shock of it all.

guess we were really unlucky as when our Amber goes to Norfolk and Norwich hossie for her yearly anti gliadin tests she has the spray which she seems to prefer as shes got a phobia about plasters so they cant use the cream. But she goes up to the ward where they are brill with her

Big hugs for you all, hope the ferretin tests come back ok too.

luv shalx xx

Yes trouble that is the cause of it, there are several things they need to check out with iron, and just because the hgb level is fine it obviously doesn't mean much! lol The iron level of winston was fine, but the more in depth look at the iron levels etc (it got really complicated) showed that the iron level in his his bones were exhausted and that apparently is to do with the ferritin levels!  Not that I have a clue, I have spent hours researching that stuff, but still am no wiser!  Maybe I should become a child doctor so I can understand it all! lol  Still no results as the computers went off for an upgrade, although they were supposed to be back by 11, and at midday I was still waiting for them to return!  I will be checking again soon!
