I am so fed up with contraception!

I was on the pill (microgynon 30) before I had Eds as I had bad painful and heavy periods. Unfortunately I fell pg whilst still taking it so after Eds it wasnt an option. I had the coil put in but I suspected it was aggravating my SPD so I had it removed. I then had the injection which made me depressed, put weight on and lose my sex drive. Now I am on a different pill called Yasmin. However my periods are awful again, really heavy and painful.

I'm thinking of going back on the coil as I have now decided it didnt have anything to do with the SPD. I'm sick of all this changing around.

I've heard there are new patches available now that you just change weekly.
My Sil is on them, but my doc wouldnt prescribe them for me as they are still quite new...and for somebody else that still manages to get pregnant on the pill lol... wouldnt be worth taking the risk!

I'm back on the injection again, but this time round have awful spotting pretty much all the time where as before i had no af what so ever.

I hope you manage to find something suitable for you Madz.
There must be at least one form of contraception out there for you

How long have you been on yasmin ?

I think my sister takes it and found she put on weight.

how did you find you af when you had the coil ?

Have you tried the implant....you know the wire thing they out into your arm.

A friend of mine had really bad periods, she takes the injection and swears by it.

I had the coil and it didn't agree with me. I do know that there is tuns of different kinds of pill....would you try another kind ?

I am not a fan of the coil, especially from all the posts on the site about it.

You have to do what you think is right for you and your body, all this changing around isn't good for you.

I hope you get it sorted, hun.

I had the coil fitted after my mc 18 months ago and havent really had too many side effects from it.  Its a huge relief not to have to worry about contraception, as like you I fell pg both times on the pill, microgynon was one and cilest was another.

My sister has the implant as she suffered terrible af's and she is ok with that.

Have you discussed your options with a family planning nurse?

I know 4 people who have had problems with the coil (pelvic infections), but have all been told it's rare for this to happen!

I don't know what to suggest Madz!  Come to think of it I'm not the best person to ask about contraception!

what about the coil that has the progesterone with it. it's called mirena. it has the effect of the coil but it is coated with progesterone. it depletes over time, as this happens you are offered double contraceptive protection and ultimately it can lead to a lightining  and control of periods. i think this would be your best bet.

good luck hun x

The mirena coil is the one my mum and friends had problems with- just to let you know, but it might be the solution for you.

Madz i know what you mean. I went to the family planning clinic last month. I was on ovranette and fell pregnant with the girls so they put me on microgynon. I lost my sex drive so asked the doc for a change. I was put on Yasmin. My temper flared up and i was always in a foul mood. I have now been put on a new one which is a complete different set of hormones. So far so good. I was asking for the coil but i was told it wouldn't make any difference and the coil normally makes your periods heavier. I can't go on the hormone one with me having bad hips so you would be the same. I have been put on Marvilon. Do you go to family planning? I would tell them all the things you have said on here. Once they know what is what they will try completely different ones. I go back on the 1st of August. I found my last period was no where near as heavy as normal either.

Hope you get sorted hunny xxxxxxxx

It was the mirena coil I had and it made my periods much lighter. I had no infections in the few months I had it. My mum has had it for over a year to make her periods lighter and its really helped her, she has about one period every 6 months now.

I feel I've tried everything now and I just dont know where to go from here.

I had the mirena coil fitted when Finn was a few weeks old, nearly 4 years ago. It's been great not having to worry about taking anything! I'd recommend it

Trouble with it at the moment is, I think it's running out. My periods have come back with a vengence (every 2 weeks) and my SPD  has gotten to the stage it was 4 years ago I can hardly do anything again  I had gotten to the stage where I could get around the house using 1 crutch, but in the last few weeks I've been contemplating using the wheelchair in the house

I saw my gp last week with a view to having a hysterectomy, but she refused. I'm now on the waiting list to see a gyn consultant, but I really don't know what to do in the meantime. All my gp offered was anti depressants nothing to help with the pain

Anyhoo, sorry for my wee rant
