I  discovered a lump in ym neck a numer of weeks ago...about 4 i think. As it was  not painful i just ignored it. I then noice dit was getting bigger so went to my gp last weds who said I have an ear infection despite having no ear ache at all ..Dr gave me antibiotics but since then I have found more lumps behind my ear and in my neck as well as having crippling back ache in the mornings.

I got up 1 hr ago and still very sore. I can be stiff in the morning but it never lasts this long.

I am not sure if going back to the gp is worth it.....I am wondering if anyone else has had anything like this recently as there are so many bugs going around.

There would be no harm in going back to your GP, that is what they are there for! If you are worrying about things then it wont help, as stress has endless effects on our health. At least your doctor will be aware of them, and he can reassure you about what they are. Could be the anitbiotics you have are just not working on the infection.

Hope you are feeling better soon, and let us know how you get on xxxx

Where abouts in your neck are the lumps?  Behind the ear and below the jawline you have a lot of glands that help fight infection.  When they are tender and swollen it normally indicates your body is fighting off an infection.  The lumps themselves are nothing to worry about as it is part of your hepatic system and they enlarge when needed to secrete white blood cells around the body.  Are you feeling unwell?  Run down?  Try taking some paracetamol to help with the pain and swelling if you don't feel better soon go and see a different dr.

Sounds like your lymph glands are up..which start just under your ear and basically work like a road map round your body.  If you can feel the lumps those will be your lymph nodes, tiny pea size nodes which are part of your lymphatic system.  They are your first port of call where infections are concerned.  Once in the nodes your neutraphils (first line of defence for bugs and) will be kicked into action and will be going on a seek and destroy mission for naughty bugs.  Once your neutraphills are sent out..your white blood cells (which are the big beasties) then spring into action as they seek out where the netrophills have marked the naughty bugs..and destroy naughty cells.  Your antibiotics will be doing its work as well.  Finish the course..take some paracetamol to ease off the pain, also try gargling salt water, minging, but will help with your throat.

Have a nice long soak to ease off the back ache..and a nice hot water bottle under your back when you go to bed.

When you finish your course of antibiotics..if they are still there go back and see GP.  Is no hassles and jobs done, good luck chica

i have had a lump on my neck in plain view for everyone. it started months ago but went down to a small size so just ignored it. then about 4 weeks ago it grew to the size of a ping pong ball. i went to the gp and they gave me antibiotics sayin it was a blocked gland. thay also said the only way to get rid of it was to have it cut out. its gone down now so im not going to bother i think the scar may be worse that the pea size it is now. just next time it appears i have to get in quck 4 my antibiotics. that was just an example if it helps
