Ellie has been out of nappies now for about 4 weeks - we are still having a few accidents some days but I feel there's no going back now or she'll be totally confused and some days she is absolutely fine..

problem is that she won't poo on the potty or toilet - I don't know if she hasn't got the patience to sit there (as soon as she's finished her wee, she climbs off to look at it even if she's still dripping) or if she doesn't like the sensation of it

she's done maybe 5 poos in total on the loo but not for at least a week -

she saves it until she gets her bedtime nappy on as almost as soon as we put her to bed, she comes to the door and sure enough, her nappy is dirty - she wants to look at it all the time which we let her do - not sure if we should but I don't want to make her thing there is anything scary or dirty about it!

she hasn't pooed now for 2 days tho altho she's hardly eating anything at the moment for some reason

she must have bellyache a lot if she's holding onto it as she never used to go at this time of the day..

does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get her to poo on the potty or toilet? we do ask her if she wants to go but she just says no and she will not sit on the potty at all unless she needs a wee!   thanks, x

My son did this...and the only answer I found was time. It took us about 3 months to get him to poo in the toilet. I don't know if it was a fluke (or just plain disgusting!) But we also started to leave the door open when my husband or his older brother did a poo. He would oten discuss the happenings....I couldn't do it because I would get stage fright]

Well done for all the toilet work to date...Ellie is streets ahead of my 26 month old daughter, who will know when she needs to wee but will cross her legs and jump about.

Have you tried telling her when you're changing her dirty nappy that poohs belong in the toilet and next time she should try to go there? We did this with Ben before we started and it seems to have worked, although he's still in nappies when we are out and about and will go in them. He's pantless during the day at home and if he neds to go uses his potty.

As for getting her to sit still, does she like books? I know you have Hannah but maybe you could try reading her a story before bed whilst shes sat on the potty? Or will she sit still in front of her fav programme on tv (a bit bad I know but if she'll sit and relax on potty then shes more likely to go for a poo)

Hope this might help, let us know x Good luck

Had exactly same problem with Cameron - and for a long time after he was out of daytime nappies. Very frustrating. Think it just took time, lots of encouragement and lots of dirty nappies. A few of my friends had same problem too - seems quite common. Hope this sorts itself out quickly - it seems never-ending, then they just suddenly get the hang of it!

lol Sunny - that's twice today you've had me in stitches!xxx

Have you thought about putting a nappy on her during the day just for 'poo'?  I know boys are notorious for not wanting to do a poo in the toilet, and both my older ones were bad.  I ended up holding ds1 on the potty to make him do it in there, something I swore I'd never do again!  In the end with ds2 I said right I want a poo in your nappy, put the nappy on, and he used to do it on cue, however when we had dd, it was only babies use nappies, big boys use the toilet! But they all were encouraged to read a book while on the potty to relax them, not something I appreciate them doing now, as when they were younger we could read a book in 5 mins(if mom was reading) obviously now they take alot longer than that!
