oh my god, so scared today and i'm a nurse!!! my lo and i were coming down stairs and i was carrying her as if in a seat position facing outward. i was talking to her and bouncing her slightly only for her arms and legs to go rigid. i thought she was excited so as i got to the hall way i turned and looked in the mirror expecting to find a happy baby but saw katie with her eyes rolled back slightly and her face a mixture of blue and red...like the most extreme poo face imaginable!! as i whipped her round to face me she cried and returned to normal muscle tone, instead of being rigid and s she screamed ans thecry was harsh. i saw she was okay and thought i'll see gp later as she had felt hot but not terribly. a little while later though as she was not settling i took her straight to hospital as she developed a rash on her back. i really thought something terrible was going to happen.

it turned out it's a normal reflex in a baby of katie's age (13 wks) as her level of awareness tries to over ride the instinctive reflexes she is born with and happens if they descend quickly on stairs. moro reflex or something. the rash was co incidence. so end of tale healthy baby...very scared mum!!! pathetic eh!

i figured i should share this info though as it could happen to any baby. i work in itu and see fits and thought it was one and could deal with it.. it wasn't until i saw rash i lost it, plus seeing baby blue was a fright. hope this doesn't happen to any one else.

It's really scarey when that sort of thing happens.  When my son was a few weeks old I was breastfeeding him and he came off the breast and rolled his eyes into the back of his head and went rigid.  When I he came around he was all floppy and had poor muscle tone on one side of his body.  I was so scared.  Like you I have seen many fits and hypos but when it's your own child it's very different.  We rushed him to hospital where they kept an eye on him for a few days.  It turned out to be reflux and the pain of the acid is what made him go rigid and roll his eyes.  It happened a few times after this but never as bad and I wasn't half as scared knowing what it was.  He is fine now and has no problems at all.

That must have been really frightening - poor u!

Owen recently had a Febrile Convulsion due to a temperature and gastro enteritis I really didn't know what to do - very frightening. It's awful when you don't know what's happening.

Am glad it was all harmless. x
