Sorry I missed this Nicki, I've been away.

You were given the wrong advice by your doctor- breastfeeding mummies, as you've discovered, shouldn't be advised to stop if baby has a bug.  Breastmilk, especially the foremilk, can keep baby hydrated through times of sickness.

I was advised to stop feeding when Alex was a baby, and thankfully I then phoned my hv who ran the local bf support group to check if the advice was right.  She told me to keep giving wee frequent feeds, just as you did.  And she also promptly marched down to the doctor and gave him a piece of her mind!  He apologised to me through his receptionist!!!

Glad the wee one is on the mend again!

Thanks Lynie,

I'm glad I did the right thing. I didn't have any of this with Cerys but I had to give up bf by this stage with her because I just wasn't able to give her enough. I have no plans to give up with Seren whilst it's working that's for sure. There is always conflicting advice when it comes to drs and bf, when I went back to him the second time he said to me to keep on bf so whether he had looked something up after I had gone or spoken to someone I'm not sure... he may have even spoken to his wife as he has 5 children himself!!!

She is definitely returning to normal. Yesterday she wanted feeding a lot and for a long time so I think my milk level has dropped slightly but hopefully it'll return to normal. Today she has slept a lot more and gone longer between feeds (except the usual evening 3 feeds close together) She has settled for the night now so will see how she goes tonight.

Seren still hasn't had her second jab and they only do immunisations on Tuesdays over here but I haven't booked her in for tomorrow. She has had a nasty cold for 2 weeks followed by this bug so have decided to leave it a week and give her little body a chance to recover fully. I'm going to speak to the HV tomorrow though and get her weighed etc just to check she hasn't dropped any dramatic weight with this bug, although she looks fine.

I must admit for a day or so because of the length of time this bug was running for I was starting to think it was something in my milk she was reacting to and started to worry that I would have to give up for that reason, unless I found out what it was. I'm glad to say that worry has passed.

Glad your worry has passed.

Just a wee note on increasing your milk supply, if you feel it needs a boost, if you express a little after some of the feeds it'll help increase your supply again, as feeding works on a supply and demand basis.  After the morning feed is a good time to express as milk supply is greater then.

hth xxxx
