Hi Everyone,

Ellie has got the chicken pox - Ethan had it a fortnight ago and now she's caught it.  I'm really worried though, today all she's done is cry and scream and say she's hurting. Her face doesn't even look like chicken pox to me - its all red and patchy. Telephoned NHS direct this morning who recommended taking her to the doctors. Doctors wouldn't get me in until 4pm (I rang them at quarter to nine). Waited in a side room at doctors and Ellie was screaming for about 20 mins, nurses kept coming out of rooms to see if she was ok.  Dr said although at first it looked like measles on the face she hasn't got none of the symptons of measles, therefore thinks it definately is chicken pox. I've been giving her calpol & ibuprofen, cool baths with calomine lotion in them and trying as best I can to get some calamine on her as she screams as soon as she sees the bottle.

Heres a pic of her a couple of hours ago, any advice appreciated.

we used something called "allerief" when ellie had chickenpox - no idea if it helped or not to be honest but on the nhs direct website it said you can give them something to stop the itching - the pharmacist recommended this..it's a liquid.

to be honest hers looks v similar to how ellie's was at it's peak, we took a photo but I don't know how to get it off the camera onto the laptop or I'd post it!  I was amazed at how many spots there were..and she was v poorly for about 4 days having a really high temp.  Ellie was like a limpet on me the whole time, crying and saying "scratchy"...!

I did read somewhere that you can put oats in a pair of tights and run this under the bathwater and it helps to dry them out (water goes creamy) but I only found this out after ellie had hers so I don't know if it's true.  You can also put bicarb of soda in the bath to help stop the itching..  I don't know if you can put them both in at the same time tho?!

I know how horrid it is but you're doing all you can with the medicine, I hope she's feeling better soon, Greedy, x

Thanks Greedy - we were supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow. How pants is that!

Ethan had them on his 4th birthday, we had to postpone his party and everything.

She's trying to sleep at the moment on the bed with dp. I think I'll go to the chemist in the morning and try and get something for the itching - the dr just gave me calpol.

chickenpox sux...get some medised and alternate it with the calpol is no probs.  You may need some sort of antihistimine which will help with the itching get the childrens piriton stuff...but DO NOT give medised with the piriton.

Hope that helps chica, keep clothing nice and loose, calamine lotion by the bucket load, tepid baths to help her out...erm bicarb of soda in the bath can also help out.

Hiya hun my little girl had this about a month or so ago.

PIRITON. Get this. It relieves the icthing of Chicken pox. But i must say she didn't look like that.

Can she tolerate light? This is a major sign in Measles.

If it is just Chicken Pox def get piriton as its for allergies too. Ashleigh didn't know she had chicken pox until she looked in the mirror.

I really hope it calms down for her soon. Bless her. xxxxx

   Can't add anymore advice but wanted to wish her well.

 Ps they alays seem to catch these things when you don't want them. My dd was 11 months old and was due to be christened . The christening was at my dhs old church 400 miles away from where we were living so we couldn't easily cancel as people were travelling quite a distance to it. At least I never forget when she had it.
