Thanks all - Its great to know I'm not alone!

I use the naughty seat too. I have a couple I use round the house - one upstairs, one downstairs. One at mums, one in our local and I even used one in a restaurant in Spain which worked a treat and impressed the hell out of my friends who had never seen one successfully implemented whilst outside the home. Bad behaviour I can cope with, I have quite strict rules and so Edward knows his boundaries.

However what I am really struggling with is that he thinks everything is him 'Mine!' or 'Eddies!' is commonly heard in this house. And when he hits the tantrums there is no getting through to him and you cant do anything short of wrestling him.

Last night he started up again but he was tired. I basically ignored it all and just said 'Ok dont wear PJ's Edward it doesnt bother me' 'Ok don't have you're milk, I dont mind.' In the end he drank his milk snuggled up with me and a book and slept fine. He fell out of bed at 9pm and scared himself silly so I put his PJs on him then and he has been good as gold so far today.

I just wish DP would stop saying 'Oh god is he going to do this every night' - in the middle of a heated debate with Edward I dont need to also be having on with DP about the terrible twos.

I must admit bedtimes have become a nightmare with Cerys as well, although she is fine to have her story she wants more than one and a constant cuddle, which is fine but even after a good 10 minutes and Seren screaming downstairs she gets really upset when I tell her that she needs to go to sleep.

The worst part of all and I can't think of anything I can do about it is the window sills are very wide and she has taken to standing on it and shouting at the neighbours. The problem is her room is so small that I can't lay it out any differently. Tonight we had tears because she couldn't get herself down from the window sill and was stuck half way. As soon as I got her down and told her to get into bed she leapt into bed saying 'I've been very naughty'... what could I say except 'yes you have, climbing on the window sill is very dangerous'

We'll all get through it one way or another... trouble is have I allowed a big enough age gap between Cerys and Seren or will it be a case as one finishes the other will start!!!!

Eds has really improved. I find if I just laugh and get on regardless he forgets he's angry - so long as he isnt over tired.

Nickimas I have also found Eds on the windowsill - except he climbs up the radiator! I was so cross (and scared!) hes a monkey though and can climb up (and down) anything!

I just hope his mood stays happy - I have a whole week, on my own with him, in a foreign country next week!

one thing that drives me nuts is when people srare at you when you are trying to ignore the tantrums, its hard enough to disipline a two year old without people's jugdemental looks of horror "gosh what a bold child and a hopeless mother....why can't she control her child".....I swear to god the next time some one stare at us I will ask them to take a photo, it lasts longer.

I'm so pleased Eds calmed down before we went to spain.

Does anyone else find their kids do the terrible two bit in fits and starts? For example Eds is naughty for about 1 week every month to 6 weeks but is ok other than that. I think it might be down to growth spurts or something?

I have this with ds but dd is naughty all the time, people always say how cute she is, if only they had her for a day, i think to myself.

I would love it to come in fits and starts like ds as it is easier with ds than dd

Welcome to the wonderful world of the terrible twos.  It's bloomin awful, isn't it? But don't despair, mate, it doesn't last forever.

I've found that 'time out' for Tom works best.  He gets 3 warnings and then I carry him up the stairs (often under one arm so his chubby little legs don't catch me as he kicks about) and then he's placed in his cot.

I then wait for him to calm down and go up to him.  I ask him if he's sorry (telling him what he's done wrong) and more often than not he says no - he likes to press my buttons.  At which point I say 'right then, you can stay there young man until you can say sorry'.  I do this until he gives up and says sorry for whatever it is he's done.

It was hard at first, but I must say he's becoming a more delightful child now. Plus just the mere mention of going in his cot for time out is enough to switch him out of his behaviour.

Good luck!
