Hi, Just wanted to get some advice really. My two DDs have come home raving about these toy cars they played with round a friend's house. Apparently, they're quite girly - I think they're Polly Pocket ones and are all pink and glittery etc. I don't think there's any problem with them playing with the cars but their gran wasn't so sure. Just wondered what everyone else thinks? Does anyone else's daughter like playing with cars? Do you think that's a problem? I really don't, but maybe I'm in the minority???!! Any thoughts would be appreciated.... Thanks

Hiya,
I have 2 boys and 2 girls, so all their toys are pretty much shared by them all when they all play together. I dont see a problem with letting boys play with dolls and pushchairs and vice versa. Its quite refreshing for them actually to have a wider variety of things to play with rather than just boys and girls toys! If cars are what she likes playing with atm, then thats great. x-x-x

Isla has got huuuundreds of toy cars and sets up races on a daily basis..i blame her dad with the F1 lol. Mind you...shes got toy helicopters etc..as well as dolls and stuff. Dont really go into the 'gender' toys only thing..toys are toys. Tasja got into the girlie car thing with the girl in that you can make do things..think theres a house that goes with them as well...seriously annoying but not going to tell her that you can replace the batteries lol

I have a 2 year old son - my friend has a daughter the same age. They love each others toys, If Edward goes to Rubys house he pushes her dolls around in a pushchair and playing in the toy kitchen. If Ruby comes to ours she plays with the cars, diggers, lorrys and trucks that litter our house!
At this age they do not recognise gender differences so they can play with what they want. Even when they are older I see no problem with them using toys designed for the other gender. I think with boys it can show their caring side and it allows girls to let off some stream racing cars round the house.
I would encourage it if it were me as it allows them to show their inderviduality.

I don't see any prob. Think gran is just being a little old fashioned. We go to mums and tots and all the kids play with all the toys: cars, prams, dolls ect on matter what sex they are. My sis and I used to have a toy garage and play with all my older bro's toys. I wouldn't worry about it. My friends little girl has ALL the Thomas the Tank Engine Wooden Railway and Ben loves going to play at her house. If you are a bit worried, get the more girly cars like Polly Pocket or Barbie.

I'm in agreement, girls are definitely allowed to have cars, just like boys can play with the pushchairs! Although they wouldn't thank me for saying so, my older 2 boys used to play with dd's pushchairs, dolls etc! Even these days I have seen them! And to top everything off, dd has recently asked me to buy her a girly remote control car, just not a barbie one! So yes, let them have cars!
