Went to Brittany recently and want to recommend the frommer's with your family guide book to Brittany - it really proved useful, esp for kids friendy sights. Nice size too, not too bulky for the already packed rucksack! There seems to be quite a few family style guide emerging lately - be interested to know if anyone else has used good one?? Thinking about going to Tuscany maybe next year.....if anyone can recommend a decent guide - preferably one with family slant.

Don't know about Tuscany but we took three boys to Croatia and bought a book called Croatia With Your Family which was excellent and kept us (them) entertained with things like standing on gargoyles and rubbing the toes of statues.

Hello Louise and dpalmer, and welcome to madmums!  Please make a wee introduction post and tell us all about yourselves and your families and we can get to know you a bit better!

You both don't work for Frommers do you?  It's just that both of those guides are published from the same house!  lol!

I really like the Rough Guide travel books, good honest down to earth advice.

Thanks everyone for suggestions! I only joined few days ago but will post up a message to introduce myself properly to everyone shortly! Been bit manic lately to devote too much time to internet surfing etc and only started looking at joining forums in last month or so after chatting with my mate who is a facebook obsessive!!

Still would appreciate some suggestions for Tuscany guide books - not sure there will be anything family orientated anyway - I have looked briefly in a few bookshops and found nothing in past - maybe I will look into a normal Rough Guide as it seems the fav!

Thanks and bye for now....

i went to florence last year-well a villa just outside, it was beautiful but v busy, and the driving was literally terrifying

book ahead for museums/art galleries online then you jump the queues

book for restaurants too esp in evenings-tho there are loads to choose from

hope you enjoy it

best tip buy lots of insect repellant-where we were was just full of them-my friend looked like a dot to dot
