Hunny, don't beat yourself up so much! Bailey is poorly but its nothing you've done! He is only little nad its hard when they get ill at that age, but he will get better I'm sure nad will need his mummy to be strong and not wracked with guilty. Honestly hun, you've done nothing wrong its just one of those things! Do as hv said and see bf support to keep your supply up. Will prob need to express milk. You can always use this in bottle for him. Try not to beat oyurself up so much, I know its hard. Big hugs to you both x

Oh Catherine, I just wanted to send you big virtual hugs. What a nightmare. I truly think that the worst thing about being a parent is when your little one is ill, especially when they're as small as wee Bailey is. My middle boy was hospitalised twice with bronchiolitis, so I know how worried you must be about that.

You're not a bad mum, and mustn't think that you are. When my eldest was 2 weeks old, the strap from his moses basket broke, and he fell on to our wooden bedroom floor on to his head and had to stay overnight in hospital. I was beside myself and had to be sedated as I felt like the worst parent ever and that I couldn't possibly deserve this wonderful little boy if I could let something like that happen to him when he was so tiny. But looking back I know it wasn't my fault, and after it happened I heard similar stories from so may people about things that had happened to their children (including the paediatrician looking after Ethan). Accidents happen. You didn't do anything wrong. You're looking after 3 small children, one of whom is ill, he's only 6 weeks so your good-old hormones are still everywhere, and you're tired out. You're human, and you're doing a fantastic job, OK?

It's excellent that you have access to breastfeeding support worker - have you contacted her?

I'm sure little Bailey will pick up soon. You've done all the right things and he's been checked out and you know what to look for to get help if he gets any worse. I found that a steamy room helped Noah's breathing, running the shower really hot and just sitting in the bathroom with him. Keep up with the calpol and the cuddles and I'm sure he'll be on the mend soon. Try and get some rest yourself too if you can, though I know this is a million times easier said than done.

Big hugs, Rachel x

It's easier said than done I know but try not to worry, you are doing great. It's always a worry when they are so tiny and they are ill and it's natural to start to blame it on something that has happened recently.

Seren was ill a few weeks ago. She had had a nasty cold for two weeks which eventually cleared up, I just had to wait as you I had the same problem dr said she was too young for antibiotics. She then got over this and 3 days later got a horrible sickness bug. It really worried me because Cerys had accidenly fallen over earlier in the morning and knocked Seren on the tummy, although I knew it wasn't hard at the time because I had caught Cerys but it still made me worry.

I put a thread on the bf forum at the time as I was concerned because she couldn't hold a single feed down at all and when she did (which was after a couple of days) it was only for about 3 minutes at a time. If you get a chance have a quick look at the thread as I received some great advice on there about my milk supply I can't remember the exact title but it was something like 'Is 5 minutes feed enough for Seren'.

For about 2 days I didn't get a single feed into Seren but the Dr's did prescribe me some dioralite for her which is just mixed with water to rehydrate or keep hydrated. She did take and keep down a full 7 oz of this but no milk. I kept expressing my milk and fed her from the bottle for a couple of days once she did manage to keep down a feed.

When Seren had a cold I did ask the dr whether I could put a karvol capsul into a bowl of hot water and put it under her cot which he said was fine... I think she was about 10 weeks old then. It might help but check with your HV first just in case because I think it says 3 months on the box. Either that or my SIL said that her LO had a nasty cold recently and she got one of the plug in karvol things I think... which I'm sure she said was suitable for younger babies, she just unplugged it when she went to bed.

I'm sure your LO will be fine although it won't stop you from worrying.

The best way to increase your milk supply is to express some milk after your morning feeds.  This is when your milk supply is best, and will help the "supply and demand" nature of breastfeeding.  After a few days your supply will be up again.

You sound really tired, which is no wonder with 3 wee laddies to look after (and worry about), and one of them being a tiny 6 week old.  Have you got anyone who can help out during the day or evening so you can get a wee sleep, or even relax a bit?  This isn't indulgent, it's fundamental to your breastfeeing too!  The better rested you are the more milk you'll produce.  You could perhaps leave the person looking after the wee one with the expressed milk you've taken off in the morning.

Hope this helps, please let us know how it's going,

xxx

thanks again everyone for your kind words and advice..

Hes just the same today, gone off his feeds again fontanelle is sunken a little more, but the docter told me it would sink if he was due a feed.. so i dont know.. his cough is awful and its choking him at times and then hes sick, or cant get his breath back.. he was a little blue this morning so put him on his tummy and winded him for like half an hour, nothing came up so rung the gp's and he just said keep an eye on him, you can feel the wheeze in his back now, so i know hes not well at all..

if hes no better later on tonight hes going to accident and emergency i just cant take any chances.. if i get there though and they say how poorly he is i wont be happy this wil be 3 days now ive been asking for help and no one has listened, as a mum who has had 2 kids with bronchilitis i know the symptoms etc..

my milk supply has come bck now, even though hes not feeding off me..

If your not happy with him honey take him up now or at least speak to NHS 24 and tell them you want him seen by a doctor this afternoon.

As a Mum go with your natural instincts and I think you want him to be checked over. At least then your mind would be at rest!

Hope he gets better soon xx

Ive just found out that when we went to birmingham there was a little girl there who was ill.. her mum took her to docs and doc said she was fine.. now the mummy is worried she may have passed whatever it is over to bailey, shes besides her self as her daughter is over the age of 1 and bailey is only teeny.. told her its not her fault these things happen etc..

anyway bailey is a little etter tonight hes got a raging temp but managing that with calpol and him being striped off! his cough is still there but not as bad it seems more looser now..
