When you started potty training your child, when did you venture out of the house, and how did you handle it?
I started potty training Ella yesterday, and she's doing really well. She's not asking to go so much, but if I put her on the potty lots we're doing pretty well! I'm not sure when to take the plunge and venture out of the house...
My MIL came round yesterday (Yes I know, I shouldn't listen to her!) and after commenting on my portable potty and my car seat pad (we didn't have anything like this la la la la) then says about how you just take them out and that's that and I only want to go out for my benefit, not Ella's. I'll be the 1st to admit, I hate being shut in the house, it really brings me down and next week when I'm off yes I do want to be able to go out - to the park, for walks etc.
So anyway, what are your top tips? Any ideas gratefully received!

Well firstly, always have a spare change of clothes (or 2) for little accidents. And its probably best not to go too far to start off with until she's a little more capable of being able to 'hold it' until you reach a toilet. Its a different ability for them to master from knowing when they need to go, to being able to control it sometimes lol Make sure she goes to the loo before you go out and any chance you get to go then take her even if she doesnt need it, but im sure she will suprise you at how little they need to go when there out unless there desperate. Good Luck and i hope your not stuck in for too much longer. x-x-x

Go out. Simple as that. When I was toilet training ( Madam not ready yet) with my other two, everytime I saw a toilet sign I would say mummy needs a wee, then say while we are here, how about you have a try.
I think we were in the loos about every half an hour and I was constantly asking them.. when we were not at the toilets
If she has an accident while you are out... and you need it cleaned up (off the floor) tell the cleaning staff thatyou think someone might have spilt something!Mums the word!

Just go out chica. Take clean pants, change of trousers, and some nappy sax and jobs done. If you are going into town, go to the loo when you get there..and pop to nearest loo every half hour or so.
I didnt want to be housebound with isla, and with tasja at school..well didnt have a choice lol.
All you can do is be brave and off you go..accidents happen but sometimes they dont

I'd take her out after a few days...accidents are bound to happen (remember Ellie at the soft play place?!!) but in my opinion (ooooh controversial lol), thats how they learn not to do it - they don't like the feel of wet knickers and legs..
Ellie has only had a few accidents while we've been out...bizarrely, when we first trained her, she used to wee at my friend's house on the floor all the time!
we take the potty everywhere with us and frequently have to stop the car for her to have a wee altho now she holds on for quite a while even if she insists she wants to go, she can wait 10-15 mins if we're on the motorway and can't stop..
she will not be coaxed onto the potty or loo unless she tells us she needs a wee but if Ella will, I think the other suggestions of going to the loo before you leave the house and when you arrive where you're going is a great idea..

Go out!! Not too far at first and take change of clothes (including sox-personal experience lol) and if youre using a potty take that too. Get her to go before you set off, and when you get to where you're going and every so often after that. I also have a pad for the buggy and car seat, but surprisingly, Ben hasn't had an accident in the car yet. Just make sure you have a rough idea as to where the loos are where you're going.I think its important that lo's know they have to by dry outside the house as well as inside.
