hey everyone im thinking of having a water birth! i have heard they are brilliant!! i was wondering if any body can tell me what they are really like? and who do i ask? my midwife?? or what help!!!!! sara and baby bump!!!

Do you want a water birth at hospital or at home?
If you want a home birth you can hire a birthing pool, my friend did it and said it was amazing. If you are in hospital then you it depends who else is using it as they often only have one and its first come first served.
Speak to your midwife who will know the procedures in your area.

my friend is having a water birth at home, she dues in less than 4 weeks - she has brought her own pool as it worked out cheaper than hiring also you hire by the day and if your early or go over could work out a bomb, they are suppose to be great - goodluck with what you decide and like madz said the midwife is the best to speak too luv jue xxx

joe and my mw tried to talk me into a water birth..and i told them where they could both go...hmmmm big poool of water..on RAF carpets..knowing my luck id get the one with a hole in it lol...sooo nooooo hozzie for me ta.

My two births so far have been waterbirths and I would really recommend them. I'm lucky as our local hospital is quite new so the facilities are great and there are specially trained midwives to help with the waterbirth. Giving birth is shocking no matter what, but a waterbirth is a lovely way to bring a baby into the world.
I can't imagine giving birth on a bed now, the water is such a natural place to be in. You can float to any position you find comfy (the midwives had a great time chasing me round the pool to try and examine me though!) I didn't have my hubby in the pool with me (yuck!) as that's a common question I'm asked!
I didn't need any stitches as the water helps with the crowning of the baby's head. In our area you have to be having a low-risk pregnancy (boohoo, I'll not be having my twins in water then!) and be at least 37 weeks to use the pool.
You end up with a lovely alert baby who's free from drugs and is nice and clean from being in the water! And you'll recover really quickly after the birth too, I was up and about almost straight away getting a shower and putting on clean jammies ready for getting a wee cup of tea and some toast.

I would be too scared to have one, but I love the idea.
TBH Ireland is very backwards that way. There is a new maternity hospital just after opening just 5 mins drive from me, I wonder would they do water briths ?

I too am thinking of having a water birth at hospital, I have spoken to my community mw who has said that when start with early labour I must ring up the hospital to let them know this is what I plan on doing, if it is free for me they will get it run and ready for when I come in. mw also said that a water borth was only possible if you had a low risk labour, so if they needed to monitor babies heart beat etc during labour then I wouldn't be able to use it.
Fingers crossed I can - I like the idea of having a water baby very much indeed :D
