Topic: Unable to view random websites - anyone?

If I go onto these websites on DH's laptop, or our PC upstairs I can view these pages just fine. It doesn't make sense as my PC connects to the net through the same network as the other PCs in our house, but it just says "Problem loading page" with this message: The connection has timed out        The server at apps.facebook.com is taking too long to respond.     *   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few           moments.     *   If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network           connection.     *   If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure           that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. I could view facebook fine the other night so don't know whats going on. I've tried  refreshing the IP address, checking DNS settings, clearing cache and cookies...  anyone?!             Back to Top      Flipflop Admin Group Joined: 09 June 2005 United Kingdom Posts: 2861 Gender: Male Posted: 24 August 2007 at 10:42am | IP Logged Are you using the same DNS server on the problem computer as the computers that can connect to the sites are using? Is the issue in all browsers? What happens if you open a command prompt and type tracert problem_website_address(without http://) confirm you can not connect to http://madmums.communitytoolbars.com/ If you can not then (assuming your running XP) open the following file with notepad or a plain text editor C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.file and on a new line enter the following 212.150.236.83 madmums.communitytoolbars.com and save the file, you may need to restart you PC as the file is sometimes cached at startup but then try again with both IE and FF.
