Hi girls!

I am afraid it's me again, thanks for making me feel better when I was 'feeling blue'.

I just want to bother you once more (last time!) with something else that had been bugging me about my MMC (13 wks). And, I do need to talk about it.

When my baby died at 9 wks & looking back to that week (the wk before I went to my Dad's). I caught a dreadful viral tummy bug that had been doing it's rounds. I got it first, then two days later my 2nd dd & an day later my 1st dd. My hubby had got off very lightly, which was typical of him!

I was very constantly sick, from midday till early hours of the morning. I was in a bad way, I couldn't move from my sickness muscles aching. I tried my best to start eating again, & kept sipping water. I did wonder whether baby was alright & I assumed it will be ok; because I had a tummy bug whilst pregnant before.

I think this bug killed my baby. Because it is way too much of a coincidence for my baby to have died at the same week the bug came!

Have you experience anything similar, when you had your MCs?

Some times there is no reason for a miscarriage. I truely believe that everything happens for a reason, and that some things are just not meant to be. I went through a MMC and I can totally understand your need for an explanation. If you look hard enough you will find possibilities but the truth is you will never know.

Lots of women suffer extreme sickness in pregnancy and continue to have a healthy pregnancy, so to say this bug killed your unborn I think is unlikely. Did the hospital run and histology after your loss? If they did could they give you any indication as to why it may have happened?

Ive just done a search, and this was my findings by a Dr Thomas:

"....most important stomach bugs are bacteriaLogin or Register to view images not viruses. Finally, most stomach bugs don't actually get past your gut into your blood stream so your baby was probably never exposed."

It is very hard accepting a MMC where there are no answers. I was fortunate enough to have an answer and find out why my unborn was naturally taken from me, and finding out did bring me closure. I found it very hard to deal with my loss before having this information. All I can say is try to understand that nature has a way of telling us if something is right or not right. If you are able to accept that, and reassure yourself that you had no control over the results, it is then a time you can allow yourself to move forward.

Have you thought about using the Madmums buddy scheme? There is a miscarriage section. This is a one to one private support scheme where you will be able to talk to someone privately through pm's on here with someone who knows and understands what you are going through. Just fill in the form HERE

very true as said by M2J. I had an MC and could never find out the answer why it happend. I was one of the lucky ones to get pregnant immediatly after that so my pain was a bit less; but i always kept wondering- was the driving? the stress? my lifting of laundry bag etc etc etc.......try not to think too much about it now. easier said than done but you will have to do it for your other kids. it can be just a coincidence that the MC happend teh same week you have the bug.

The chances are nothing you did or didn't do caused you to miscarry.  As Mum2J said your tummy bug wouldn't have got anywhere near your baby and the worst that could have happened is you became dehydrated but your baby would have been fine.  People in 3rd world countries with no sanitation manage to have babies so it was nothing to do with you being ill.  There is very rarely an explanation to why anyone mc's.  Most babies die at 6wks or 8wks pregnant due to developmental milestone in the feotus at this time.

Oh God! You lot had made me feel heaps better!

Deep down, I suppose I had been kinda blaming myself for catching this bug. Because I was the one that made the last minute decision to go the 'Mums & Toddlers Plygrp', where the bug came from.

Mum2josha - I had read the article you had sent me. It was very good & I really did needed to read that! Thank you so so much!
I did have a histology report done on my 9 wk baby, I had chased it up after I had my baby bought home. The histology dept told me they don't give out information directly to the patient & I had to get in touch with my consultant. I did & my consultant had told me that histology means they just store a piece of my baby in wax for next 30 yrs! Straight away I regreted signing the histology papers, because I got nothing out of it & he also said they don't do tests in early pregnancy because of the size & that the ERPC had mashed my baby up anyway.

Have I been a bit fobbed off here? I will think about joining the 'Buddy Scheme', it's just that I am new to talking one to one on computers!
