if you are adding egg it must be cooked thourghly as you cannot give raw egg,you can add fresh juice instead of milk just aslong as shes still havng milk in other forms.

i think your okay at 5months to be introducing finger foods just so long as you obvioulst stay with her and make sure she doesnt choke, and as for the purree, just gradually purree it less and less to make it more lumpy as she gets used to it... hth xxx

Oh this is making me think back a long time lol

I gave Joshua lumpy foods at about 6 months, I was using the 7 month jars then I do remember that much. He was having finger foods much earlier than this, just bits of toast, or crusts from bread, rusks etc. They also do some teddy bear buscuit things in the baby food range. I didnt start giving Joshua 'normal' food till about 7/8 months (because I was lazy and used the jars) but I never added his milk or anything. I would just make the food and mash in down a little bit with a fork.

I was quite scared to give Joshua things like meat and sausages, so I avoided giving him these. He was about 2yrs when he had his first sausage, poor child lol I used to fill him on pasta, potatoes and veg. I did give him mince and often used turkey, pork and lamb mince as well as beef. As he learnt to chew I would just make the meals more chunky.

Hope that helps.  I just boiled fruits and veg until they were soft, blended them and popped them in ice cube trays 'till I needed them.  I added some of the babies' milk and sometimes baby rice to make them creamier.  Avoid anything with salt in it as this isn't good for the baby.  I'd hold off on the finger foods until she's a wee bit older as sometimes young babies can choke on lumps.

I didn't wean Ben til he was 5 1/2 mths so we'd b a bit later than you. ERm, I didn't give him finger foods til he was about 7 mths, and he didn't really catch on to that til he was about a yr! I didn't give hm meat for a while either, just fruit and veg purees. I addd baby rice to then to thicken them up. I still mixed formula milk in with his breakfast til he was about 9 mths I think. I guess its u to you and your lo what you give and when. Ask you hv too.

Hi

You can use cooled boiled water if you wish or milk.... i used a mixture ie in spag bol etc i used water as milk just didn't seem right. You need to use babies usual milk (formula/breast) till they are 1 then you can use fall fat cows milk.

Are you a member of cow and gate? If not join them on the web and call them and check at what age you can stop using boiled water as i think you can stop using this before they are a year.

As for making the food lumpier (sp?) its up to you, is katie making chewing motions with her jaw when eating the puree? If so you might be able to go to smooth lumps ie mash etc but take your time. If she starts to chock just pull her forward towards you, as it'll just dribble out and pat/hit her back.

Try using rusks if she's trying to hold food, as these easily discintergrate and become mush as they suck them... you will need to supervise her though in case a big bit comes off as they do have a tendancy to crumble but leave it up tp her.

You can add cheese but some babies find the taste a little stong depending on the brand you use. Just take it slow and introduce things a little at a time.

If you want any more questions answering please don't hesitate to pm me and i'll do my best to give you a hand.

Your doing really well, keep it up.

Tsena x
