I hear mine every night.  If Fred and Winston are upstairs playing after I have put them to bed, I leave them an hour, and unless they are screaming like they are injured, I don't worry about the noise.  Yes I am heartless, but until I had Winston and started ignoring squeals of 'I want to come out'  Fred never slept on his own.  It is hard being this heartless, but he now doesn't have his daytime sleep and is ready for bed by 6pm, and for the last 4 nights he has gone straight to sleep, Winston on the other hand, has had to have his dummy replaced each night.  We did hear a squeal from Fred about midnight last night, but I stayed quiet and waited and found it was actually in his sleep.  No idea what to suggest, but the I have yelled at Fred a few times, and he hasn't suffered from it.  They have a strict bedtime routine, then thats it, I did start putting the music on full blast downstairs, that way they had background noise and I had their noise blocked out, it took over a month, but now I find it's worth it.

Owen wakes up every night anytime time between 4am and 5.30am. He wants a bottle of milk and then goes back to sleep. (It's usually hunger related)

I've tried ignoring him and letting him cry (that upsets me too much) and I really don't know what to do with him. I can't let him cry it out as he get so upset and takes hours to calm down and then I have to go to work shattered. On the days I'm off I try to feed him up during the day and usually he sleeps longer before waking. Bearing in mind he is now 2 he shouldn't be waking for milk but is very strong willed about eating during the day when with my parents. It's a no win situation in our house and I know I shouldn't give in to the night feeds but to get some sleep I have to.....

AAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

oooh I don't know how I missed this thread!

I'd say we'd hear from Ellie about 8 times - she sometimes plays up for a bit after she goes to bed, saying she wants a wee, poo, more milk, covers on, light on,etc.  but it's usually easily sorted out and once she's asleep, she doesn't usually wake up until morning..

however, she's been ill for the last week so is waking at least twice in the night crying - we go into her and settle her down, again, it's easily sorted and she's back to sleep very quickly..

if she's not ill, she sometimes wakes up with no covers on or she's woken and can't find teddy - she occasionally asks to go for a wee or for the light on but we've bought a nightlight now so that one has stopped...

can you get referred to a sleep clinic?  contact your hv...she should be able to help..they are experts and might offer something you've not thought of...

you've not done anything wrong you silly moo!

Thank you all for your replies.

I'm in the process of keeping yet another sleep diary to see if there are any patterns. She goes through phases and at the moment I think we're coming out of one of the bad ones as the last 2 nights have been a bit better. Also its easy for 1 night to run into the next and so by writing it down I can at least get an accurate picture of whats going on.

We have a bed time routine and that works very well - going to sleep in the 1st place isn't the problem as she does that bit very well. The issue is staying asleep. I think the loud music is a good idea Vix as I get more and more wound up as the crying goes on when I know that she's ok.

I suppose I should expect this really as I'm a rubbish sleeper, that said I don't shout about it as much!

My DD wakes say 12 out of 14 nights and has just turned 3.

We too went through the night terror or similar stage around 18 months to about 27 months. She's wake screaming & howling in distress nothing could calm her & sometimes she'd not seem to recognise me or dp.

BEST OF LUCK.
