hello gurus. hope all is well. as you know i'm weaning katie who is now 24 weeks. it's fairly established but i was wondering when to or even how to make the food the mre concentrated aspect of the feeding time. i normally give milk first then food. how much milk do i offer? when or shall i offer the food first then the milk at the end. what quantities of food do i give? in morning baby cereal, lunch time, friut puree or petit filous fruit puree yoghurt, then tea time it's a savoury followed by pudding. what do you think? shall i give savoury and sweet at lunch? shall i give mid morning snacks ie yoghurt . when do i make it lumpy? offer baby biccies. i was thinking of trying bickie pegs to help with the teething. has any one tried them?

sorry for lots of questions but i wan tto be sure that i'm doing my best by katie. this time round my mind is frazzled with hormones and i'm unable to concentrate and recall what i did with maddie. i guess i should be kinder to myself there is 6 yrs between them.

finally, i have just started giving katie a whole jar of food...when i use a jar? is that too much for her age. she is a hungry baby and a very, very good weight.

well, this time i mean finally... in a couple of weeks she'll be 6 months. do i wait until then to start her on a fortified milk with iron or not and wait? i read that the supply the baby has is diminished by 6 months. i currently use cow and gate step 2.  the iron one is step 3 but will that supply the same filling as the step 2 as it's a hungry baby formula.

phew. i'm amazed i remeber these questions. been meaning to write them in for ages, but have just gone back to work. am shattered to say the least.

hiya..

my kaitlyn is now 8 months and started to wean at 5 but her eating habits hasnt increased so much. i give her the normal amt of milk as she took every 3-4 hours , which was only 4 oz. she takes more in the morning up to 5 i guess. but she has her baby cereal after her bottle in the morning for breakfast and i mix fruit with this. she has a half a jar of veggie with her 4 oz of milk or after it. she has a mid afternoon snck of 4 oz of milk and followed by baby cookies but she easily naps right after the bottle. for dinner she takes 4-5 oz and a full dinner jar of baby food. ive tried to make her cereal thicker as time goes by but sometimes she gags on it so i know shes not ready for the thicker dinners. but she loves the chcken or turkey with veggies and its pureed pretty well for gerbers. hope this helps but my girl is very small for her age...so far 15 and half pounds about.

With Louis, I gave him food first and let him have his milk afterwards as a kind of drink, but also offered water throughout the day.

I gave him a cereal, lunch (savoury)followed by a petit filous, and at tea time, i also gave him a savoury and a pud usually pureed fruit.

At this age now, you can start to offer finger biscuits and finger food type snacks, I gave louis carrot sticks to help with teething, and I remember Vickimom telling me to try frozen melon slices as another heatly teething snack.

It just depends on the individual child.  Louis used to monster food, always had the equivilant of a full jar of food and a pud.  He'd also take about 4-5 oz after a meal.  I used bickipegs with both of mine, but remember having trouble finding them, my mum gave them to all of us when we were teething.

As for lumps, you can try her with them and see how she gets on, just increase the size of the lumps the older she gets.

HTH

I used to offer Ella milk first too - as it was the only way I could get her to have any milk. She loved her food and as soon as she saw that was on offer, she wouldn't be interested in milk at all. Quantity wise, from 6 months they need about a pint a day or 21 oz.

I was using SMA gold when Ella was 6 months - same as Cow and Gate stage 2 and I changed her onto Progress as this was supposed to be more like a drink than a food. She never really fully got on with SMA so I changed to Cow and Gate 3 and she was much happier with it. There is no particular reason why you have to change onto a follow on milk, I did because of the vitamin and mineral  content and to be honest, because it was cheaper.

When you say she eats a full jar, are you talking about a stage 1 jar? If so - Ella did too!!
