Oh no- no way, that's so awful. Is that not discrimination? I can't believe they've told you that- I'm absolutely gutted and frustrated for you. Becky, please don't let this set you back- can you not turn anywhere else for help/ get a second opinion?

Becky go back to your GP and demand that you are referred to a dietitian. Let them help you. With PCOS its important to eat the right thing, wholemeal foods and those high in fibre are best, its easier for the body to break them down and reasorb them. Ive been struggling to loose weight for 3 years and all I have done recently is swop my bread to wholemeal, my cereal to bran flakes or shredded wheat and I also do half normal and half wholemeal on my pasta and I have lost some weight already. Thats without increasing any exercise.
Dont give up no matter how angry and sad you feel right now. Ring up the gynaecology deptarment and speak to the consultants receptionist, they are usually very good. They will probably get you in quite quickly for a second opinion with another doctor. Then tell this dr, although you know you need to loose weight you have tried and you need help to do it.
Dont let them get you down. You can do this if you get the right help. Dont give up on your dreams babe xxxx

Hi M2J ive read your reply and i saw the consultant who is the fertility woman too i dont think there is any one higher than her to see or any other fertility "experts" in the hospital i went to .
Im still very cross and upset today so much so i couldnt face work , makes you realize why there are so many sick girls and women ut there with eating disorders , ive asked for help on and off for the last 3 years with 3 diff docs and each one has said join a club( diet club) and exercise ......yes i do that and it doesnt work cant you give me more help ....no. Its not like i dont want help i have pleaded so many times before and been knocked back im just losing patients now and dont want it anymore .

Right then lady.
Yes it sux, yes she was bang of order, and yes ive had kids (before you say its alright for you).
You now need to adapt a 'take no prisinors' attitude. So wipe your bogies, wash your face, breathe and start planning, plotting and scheming.
Right, youve been trying to lose weight your own way for the last few years, yes it comes off, but then it comes back.
So you need to go in and see your GP and basically bash him/her over the head and demand help. Youve tried it their way, done the clubs blah di blah. You want a baby, you are willing to do anything to achieve this, yet you need help from them to get down to the weight that the fertility peeps say you need to be down to. Your GP should be fully sympathetic (and not a plank about it) ask to be referred to a dietician, see what else he/she can recommend and take it from there. Dont be fobbed off with lame excuses.
If you want something badly enough you need to be working towards it. Yes youve been trying for a while, yes youve got PCOS, yes the whole world seems to be against you right now. Soooooo you need to go out there and bash the whole damned world over the noggin to get what you want.
Yes its upsetting and not fair....but thinking its not fair isnt going to get you anywhere, you are almost halfway to defeat if you think like that. I know this sounds harsh, but its the way ive HAD to think over the last 12 months, and facing the same thing all over again for the next 12 months.
Start thinking....I AM GOING TO DO THIS...YOU ARE GOING TO HELP ME DO THIS...IM NOT GOING TO STOP TIL I HAVE THIS...
You have asked for help and so far been bashing your head against a brick wall...so now go back at the brick wall with a sledgehammer.
Sorry if all this sounded harsh, but im not one to do softly softly especially where something important is concerned. Chin up chick

Hi hun
This is disgusting, i think the whole idea of this BMI and weight who's normal etc is wrong. I'm 5'9 and weight over 13 stone and i'm still obsese according to BMI and weight/hight charts.
I think the whole thing needs a bloody review and personnally i think it's some disgusting way to keep waiting lists short!
But thats just my opinion, i would keep fighting hun, seek many opinions and referals, you can choose which hopsital so go for another one and keep fighting. Speak to your gp, if you have a decent one if not do some reaserch by looking into the different medical practices and see if anyone has had better sucess rates.
Take care hun, we are all mortified, and we don't blame or think any less of you for being angry, peaved or any stronger words of how you are feeling. ((Hug))

Well said Steph. Becky, Steph is right - you must not give up. Go back to GP and DEMAND help. This is too important to allow people to fob you off. You deserve the help needed to lose weight - fight for it.
I'm sorry you're feeling so bad just now, but don't give up.

Becky it doesnt have to be someone higher, just someone understanding. Have you tried changing your diet? Cut out cheese, use a strong cheese so that you use less (advice from dietitian.. she said no point having loads of healthy cheese if you dont like it just have less of the stronger, nice cheese). Replace what you can with wholemeal. Lots of diet clubs tell you not to eat pasta/bread/potatoes but my dietitian said all these foods are better for PCOS. Swop some meats for 'meat free' alternatives. Like in a spagg bol.. use fresh veg and passatta sauce instead of pricessed jars, and then add quorn mince. honestly you will not taste the difference but it is a million times better for you than even the lean mince. Also the quorn chicken is nice when done in a sauce, not on there own though lol
My personal trainer encouraged me to eat 6 small meals a day, but that was like breakfast (wholegrain) and a glass of water, then mid day piece of fruit and a glass of water, small lunch (wholemeal bread if u have a sandwich) with a glass of water, snack (mr potato heads are low fat crisp snacks) with glass of water, dinner with water and then something in the evening (yoghurt/fruit/healthy snack) with water. It sounds a lot but its not really. Also recommended is exercise that increases the heart rate for 30 minutes, abrisk walk helps this, or swimming. As your body gets used to it you can increase the exercise length so that your heart rate is higher for a bit longer.
If your Gp can see that your trying to help yourself then they have a duty to help you too.
Make a food diary so that you can see what exactly you are eating, are where you are going wrong. This is just a short term thing so you can see where the changes need to be made. Eat lots of fruit and veg, try not to cook with processed foods, its a little extra prep time but really is much better for your body.
You can get what you want if you keep up the spirit. Find out what BMI they want you to be at before they will start treatment. My consultant said so long as mine was under 30 (which is very overweight in my height etc) he said then I was ok. They might not necessarily need you to be in an ideal category, just under a certain BMI.
Weight loss really is the key to helping PCOS. Weight gain is caused by the insulin, but they whole imbalance thing is thought to be due to the extra male hormone testoserone in the system (or something like that) talk to your gynae again and tell her if she wont help the fertility then she has to help the symptoms. Get a repeat appointment and ask about Metformin. This is used to correct the hormone inbalance and help the insulin, and should help with the weight loss (with a healthy diet) This doesnt help with fertility, but it helps with weight loss, which in turn helps the PCOS, which in turn my help your fertility, but even if it doesnt, with the weight loss your dr can then start your fertility treatment.
I really really think it is worth getting a second opinion, even if its not witht he top fertility dr, a good gynea dr will be able to help!
