Hiya hun,
Your story sounds so similar to mine it's scary...
I was referred to the pain clinic and I expected tips on how to 'manage' the pain, go over pain relief etc etc... nope! it was just a case of "let's talk about it... grrrr". At times it's as if you're hitting your head off a brick wall: all you want is someone to understand exactly what you're going through and hopefully do something to help. Unfortuantely, no-one seems to have the answers with this though. I've been to a physio, who referred me onto the hydro pool (which I was thrown out of because like you, I couldn't get myself there at times and they refused to send transport. Two missed app's and your out - no excuses!).
I was attending 'pain clnics' in between this and still, all they did was talk.. I was then sent to a gynae, who did a total hysterectomy (to sort the fluctuations of pain before/during my period), I went to an orthopaedic surgeon who plated me (and I now know that he made an a**e of it) and since then it's been back and forward to various consultants who all said "mm, it's a swine of a condition, not much we can do".. through to "mm, sometimes the mind can make us 'think' that we feel pain when really we're just depressed"
The breakthrough for me was being sent to an orthopaedic (sp?) surgeon who was a 'pelvic' specialist.. Finally, someone who truly understood (min you, getting stuck trying to stand up and him hearing the 'click' ((he thought it was the chair at first)) certainly helped.. I'm now waiting to go in to get the plating done correctly with two plates accross the front and one in my back (it's normally one) and here's hoping this'll help - I certainly can't get much worse as it's been horrendous lately. Like you, I have kids too (2 of them) and it's sooo difficult trying to do all the very day things that others do without even thinking about it..
Anyway, I would suggest you get your GP to refer you to an orthopedic consultant (preferably a pelvic one), they should then do x-rays etc to check if you still have a 'gap', how wide it is and than make you suggestions on what, if anything they can do. In the meantime, ask your physio to refer you to the hydro pool as it really is so much better in water and hopefully your hospital will have a better system regarding transport (I think half the problem though is just getting the condition/symptoms treated seriously).. Other than that hun I don't know what else to suggest as I know you know all about the 'keep your knees together' getting in/out of the car etc (all the basic managing tips) but I really think you need more than that now. Unfortunatley it's a condition that you really have to fight for it to be taken seriously (unless of course you get someone who knows/understands straight off - then you've struck gold!) and in some instances, you need to keep fighting (like me). You know your own body hun and you know what's right/wrong, you just need to make others see it too..
Good luck hun, I'll be thinking of you and please pm me when it gets to you (it gets to me quite a lot), sometimes it helps to share..
