Haven't been on here for ages. So sorry if this is in the wrong place.

My son George has now decided to start waking in the night and scream(for the last 2 weeks). I don't think he's hungry although he drinks a bottle. He'll stop if you pick him up. As soon as you put him down again he starts again. He's 10 1/2 months. Still has no teeth either. Don't think it's teething though.     In all fairness he's now got a cough and cold and last night he did vomit so was hungry but the other nights i have no explanation for. Sorry for rambling but i'm just exhausted and frustrated as i don't know what to do.

Any advice greatfuly received.

Hiya - long time no see! Sorry to hear George not sleeping great - poor you.

I know two people who's lo's still get up during the night for bottles at nearly two years old, but I think wee ones will get up as long as they're offered milk. Once night feeds stopped, I never gave mine milk during the night - they were offered a drink of water if they didn't settle.

Sorry - don't have any magic 'fix-it' advice. I found mine frequently went through little stages of waking up during the night, for no particular reason, while they were young. Could possibly be the start of teething for George - Rebecca got her first tooth around 10 months - keep an eye out for lots of dribbling during the day, and all the other wee signs!

Hope George starts sleeping for you very soon.xxx

Hi hunny.

Sorry to hear your having a rough time at the minute. You say he hasn't got any teeth yet. To be honest it sounds like this could be it. They generally play up more at night and the cold and snoty nose is just the first signs of teething. Has he any rashes around his mouth or private bits?

Try some bonjela or some other teething soother and see if it helps. Not sure of the other types as i only used Bonjela. I'm sure other people know some good ones as well.

Sorry i'm not much help either but i hope its just a phase and he will soon start to settle for you. xxxxxxxx

other forms of teething gel are calgel, dentonox granuals.... it's down to personal preferance.... if you do go for bonjela make sure you get the kids version it tastes just that little bit nicer!

My last 2 started doing the waking up at night at 9-11 months!  I started giving them an extra drink just before they went to bed, in case it was hunger. The reason I suggest this, is they do tend to go through a growth spurt at this age too. Both of mine seem to sleep better after a full meal at night.

This is also the age when they start to realise they are a little independent, and when they sleep, they do dream about the happenings of the day too.  Not that it is much help when you're going through it, as you're usually half dead and feel more stressed at being woken up so suddenly.  I don't have any real solutions for you, but ((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGE HUGS)))))))))))))))))) I can help with.

When my eldest was a baby I had to do controlled crying to get him to sleep through. But its worth riding it out just in case its illness or teething first. All I can suggest is keeping it very quiet in babys room when you do have to go in. Try not to talk just making a shushing sound(if you get me!) and try and make it comforting without too many cuddles. Also try giving water instaed of milk. I hth!

I'm in a similar situation..hannah is 6 months and now on 3 meals a day but still feeds (bf) at least twice in the night (last night was 4 but she's poorly so I'm letting her off!)..

I'm going to try "pick up/put down" which is basically where you pick them up when they cry and put them down again the minute they stop crying and repeat this until they fall asleep..it could go into the hundreds of times tho so am thinking it might be a nightmare with hannah as she's nearly 20lbs!  (pm me if you want more info)  it takes quite a few days to break the habit of them waking but is a gentler version of controlled crying which I'm reluctant to do as Hannah is so young still...we're going to try this in a week or two when she's better and weaned off the boob onto the bottle a bit more (which isn't going terribly well either!)

good luck! xx

Adam was doing this last Xams, he was 22 months then. I was lifting him and giving him some milk but then realised I was encouraging him to waken. I started putting him into bed with a sippy cup of water. Worked a treat.

George still won't drink from a beaker or hold a bottle himself. So lazy. He doesn't have any rashes round his mouth or his private parts but will keep an eye out. Use metanium at night just as a precaution anyway. Have tried the pick up, put down routine and after 2 hours we gave up. Hence the bottle with some Dozol in last night. Controlled crying is horrible too. He gets himself so worked up he vomits so then wont settle till he has a bottle again. The worst thing is my other half and i do shift work so we're quite often here on our own having to deal with it. My heart goes out to all those single mums that have to do it alone x
