Well, the codeine seems to be doing the trick so far!

Not that I am pain free, but I can now get a good nights sleep every night, and during the day I can move around enough to be able to take care of everything I need to do.  It also means that I can still drive - or at least means that I am confident that I could perform an emergency stop safely, which I was doubtful about before, therefore I wasn't confident to get behind the wheel.

So hopefully this, plus physio, plus the chiropractor will get me to the birth OK.  Afterwards, we'll see...

Hun i'm really please that you're now able to sleep and do the pottering around that you need to do.

With the team you have behind you, you should do fine but do remember about the self help bits like keeping knees together, getting dressed sitting down, using a rucksack to carry all the bits you need for night up and all the bits you need for daytime down stairs to save you going up them, as you still need to be careful.

As for the driving you did the right thing hun, if you can't do an emergency stop you shouldn't drive, cause sod's law it'll be the one time you need to do one!

Take care hun and chat again soon

Well, I've been to the physio - and I now have a very large piece of tubigrip to wear

It's a true fashion statement, believe me.  But it does help, as does the codeine - between the 2 I am now pretty much fully mobile (although very slow) again.  Physio said that as I am 35 weeks and mobile, they won't see me again unless something deteriorates badly, like mobility or pain levels.  So I seem to be on the right track.  Off to the chiropractor again on Monday, so hopefully maintaing that will help keep me mobile.

Saw MW today as well, and she said that one reason why the pain might be better is that the baby is 3/5 engaged already!  Therefore resting on pelvic floor muscles rather than pelvis itself.  She said than in her experience, SPD pain does decrease once the baby has engaged.  Does this sound early to anyone else?  So fingers crossed baby may arrive early, and get this over and done with ASAP...

Can they become unengaged, or am I allowed to get my hopes up every so slightly?

lol - I had one of those huge tubigrips too. I was wearing mine in June and July, so it got rather hot!

I think, unfortunately, that the baby can move back up again - am sure it did with one of mine. But, fingers crossed, hopefully your lo will stay put!

Remember, don't be lulled into a false sense of security now you're on top of the pain a bit - do NOT over-do it. Keep resting etc.

Take care.

xxx

hi

i'm mum to katie now 6 months old and still suffering with the spd. i had a rough time in the pregnancy, but got through it by using all support networks and staying strong.

i was on codeine, i then had to move to tramadol, stepped up to oral morphine and at one point had to be given entonox to get off my sofa by the paramedics as my pelvis became so unstable. as time went by i experienced a variety of attitudes but stay strong and remember...you need the help that you can get to ensure that your lo has got a mum that has not turned into a fruit loop becuase the pain got too much.

i was given crutches, but ended up in a wheel chair for long distances. i could do nothing. i had occupational therapy come and give me equipment so i could eventually return home after a 2 week hospital stay. i had grab rails to help turn in the bed ( a god send), a aperch stool for doing work in kitchen etc, sad to say an old git toilet seat, but it did the job, and a step and a bech for the bath/shower.

rest,rest,rest though.

katie is a demanding baby and sadly i still struggle to take her weight for long periods of time. she has to be held alot, i can still end up crying at night as i have her lay on me and all i want to do is not hold her. i am better than i was, but my immediate recovery was not miraculous, but we're all different.

i am now so weak round the middle that if i bend forward i can be in pain as i have no tummy or back muscles. if i go swimming i flare up big time and so can't strenghten that area. i have been sat for too long now( a luxury normally) and i am starting to hurt, i need to go lie down just to take the pressure off my pelvis. be prepared forperiods to be hard, as it's the hormones that come with the cycle that initiate it again.

be sure, hun, that your baby will be fine. katie had all sorts of drugs as you know, even fentanyl at one point and a course of amytriptilline, and she's racing ahead and thriving.

sending gentle hugs
