Just a quick question, what do they do at the hospital if you have a broken nose?  Dd has had a serious headbut off Fred (he has a very hard head, and has brought tears to my eyes on a number of occasions).  Tears were there immediately, and 15 mins later her nose was swollen (not a great deal but enough to notice).  She is having problems opening her mouth for eating (and talking much to my warped sense of humour), and was eager to take paracetamol (something she refuses to take normally)  She is holding her glasses off her nose so she watch the tv, or moves them down to the bottom of her nose!

Hi hun

They don't tend to do much, but i would go and get her checked out either way as it is a child and it needs to be checked to make sure that there is nothing sinister going on.

This is very important as she can't open her mouth properly as they will want to check that it's not obstructing her airway

Please go now let us know how you get on.

Hope you get seen soon

XXX

p.s. didn't mean to worry you or panic you.... sorry if i did!

I once accompanied a child to hospital with a broken nose (one guide camp years ago, not even one of my guides!) and they x-rayed to make sure that there were no stray bits of bone, that it was just the nose and not the cheek bones/facial bones etc and to make sure that it was a clean break. Fortunately, hers was a clean break so they straighted it, and taped it.

I'd say its worth a trip, especially as she's having probs opening her mouth.

Let us know how you get on!

Ouch - that is a sore one! I got hit the face with a can of juice at school - it was agony. The following morning when I woke up I had black eyes and it was really swollen. All the hospital did was x-ray it - it was fractured.

Did you take Dd to hospital? Hope everything ok and she's feeling better today.

xxx

Thanks for all your replies!  I phoned nhs direct and had a fantastic nurse phone me back within 10 minutes!  She said to keep an eye on her, and if she got worse, then I was to take her straight in!  Well, I never went into the hospital as the nurse had said with the replies she gave then there weren't any alarms ringing! lol Dd has managed pn painkillers, didn't get hardly any bruising, as for Fred's head, well it must be sore as I haven't seen him headbutting much these last few days! lol bless his heart.
