I had made the decision to start potty training sometime soon as I hadnt had time before the wedding and he was starting to show signs. His girlfriend was potty trained whilst we were away and Eds mentioned it so I told him next week he could wear big boy knickers and weewee on the potty. Well that started it - he wanted to do it now!

We have had no accidents this morning - but he has yet to do a wee or a poo since I took his nappy off. He has tried a few times but so far nothing which is very unlike him as he has normally done a poo and a couple of wees by now.

He's asleep now, still in his knickers. I was going to put him back in a nappy for his nap but he wouldnt have it. I convinced him to sit on the toilet but he didnt go.

Is this normal or will this hurt him if hes holding it in? I am making a sticker chart at the moment for him to use when he wakes up.

Hun i'm sorry i'm no use here but at least he wants to be a man, sounds daft but i have a potty now brought a week ago and as kristian always follows me to the loo i've been thinking about sitting him on it, and if lucky pouring anything away, then flushing as he already has to flush the chain and wash his hands just like mum!

I do remember from kieran though that for the poo he used to get really scared so i brought some bath books down which he could look at which took his mind off it all and he loved it!

Good luck hun XXX

I think it's probably quite normal - Cameron used to hold his in a bit when we first started him in 'big boy pants'. He'll soon get the hang of going on the potty. (although, saying that, Cameron refused to wee on his potty and used the toilet straight away). Good luck - hope he gets the hang of it all nice and quickly for you!

I must admit eds seems happier on his padded toilet seat than on the potty so I think we'll be sticking with that for now. I just hope he doesnt wee whilst hes sleeping because I dont want him waking wet and cold and upsetting himself.

I've said before that both my boy's went straight to the toilet and refused to go on the potty full stop!
If Edss is happier sitting on the toilet, then i would carry on with that... and it is much easier than carting a potty around with you too lol
I'm sure it wont hurt him to hold it in either, thats a good sign though that he has the control to hold it until he actually needs to go, rather than going simply because he could in his nappy if you know what i mean!

Hi hun try putting him on the toilet or potty and go out of the way where he can't see you but be close enough if he needs you. Some children are shy. My cousin was and it took her ages to get sorted. She would just hold it in all day but she is fine now. Jamie-leigh if she has a nappy on will go and hide when she is having a poo. Or if she goes on the toilet anyone with her have to go down stairs and she will shout when she is done. She just won't go in front of anyone. So see if this will work instead.

Goodluck hun and i'm sure he will be fine. xxxxx

Emily is the same with a poo she always wants us to go out of the toilet and do it in private! so maybe it is worth a try giving him some privacy. Goodluck with today! :)

I'm ashamed to say I have given up and put him back in nappies.

I dont mind the accidents at all but Edward doesnt seem to mind them either. He just wasnt interested in sitting on the toilet and it was becoming an argument which I didnt want. I have been asking him all afternoon if he needs a poo which hes been saying no too - he did one in his knickers just after I asked him and just went on playing. Hes not even bothered about wetting even when his knickers and trousers are soaked and cold. I'll leave him this week and see what he does - he may decide he wants to carry on tomorrow in which case I'll follow his lead but otherwise I dont think hes ready yet.
