I've got no idea when Ellie will be weaned - I suppose when she starts showing signs that she's hungry all the time and milk isn't satisfying her - I think I'm lucky in that she is feeding every 4 hours and seems content with that - altho I do wish she wasn't like this thru the night!  I know that by giving her solids, she might sleep longer at night but I'd rather wait till she shows me she's ready....my HV hasn't mentioned it yet, in fact, all she does is asks me is whether I'm still bf'ing and weighs ellie...

i started weaning ryan at 15 weeks, hv was no hep at all. he was refusing milk i eventually took him to the docs thinking there was something wrong with him and she told me that i needed to start weaning as he now needed more than just milk to fill him up, this was his way of telling me. anyway as i said he was weaned at 15 weeks he is now 81/2 months and will eat almost anything and is eating proper food ie sandwiches for luch, salads veg fruit all just chopped up.

i think it is down to the parent to decide what is best. i was confused at first but once i started weaning i knew i had done the right thing and still stand by that descision.

re the bf mothers leaving it later to wean, i bottle fed and was told it was ok to wean before 6 months as bottle fed babys don't get the same sucking action as breast fed babies and this action apparently encourages chewing and talking at a later stage. hope that makes sense.
