I have had an infection in my left ear for a few weeks now.  It doesn't seem to clear up.  The doctor told me it is a similar infection to thrush but in the eustachian tube.  It itches and burns so he might be right.  He gave me some cream to put in my ear but it's not that easy, it feels horrid after you put the cream in.  I was wondering if there was a natural remedy for it but don't fancy pouring yoghurt in my ear....  I think it could be to do with using cotton buds as it seems to get worse if I use them but they are 100% cotton so not sure really.  Any tips anyone on how to stop my ear burning and itching and not have to visit useless dr....

Hmm the only thing that I remember working for thrush was a vinegar bath, and I dont think you fancy pouring vinegar in your ear lol Sounds completely annoying nothing worse than an unreachable itch. I cant think of anything safe to pour into your ear, sorry xx

I found this on a website,

There are several maneuvers that can be done to improve Eustachian tube function. The simple act of swallowing activates the muscles in the back of the throat which help open the Eustachian tube. Chewing gum, drinking, or eating promotes swallowing. Yawning is even better because it is a stronger muscle activator. If the ears still feel full, you can try to forcibly open the Eustachian tube by taking a deep breath and blowing while pinching your nostrils and closing your mouth. When you feel a pop, you know you have succeeded. If problems persist despite trying to forcibly open the tubes, you may need to seek medical attention. If you feel dizzy performing this maneuver, then stop and discuss this with your doctor.

It also said taking decongestants can help because it shrinks the membrane and allows the ears to equalize more.

Hun you'll still need to put the cream in but have you tried laying on a warm hot water bottle (ear on it sorry) to help with the itching either that or a cold flannel on the ear.

When washing use some cotton wool to block the ear and then smear the outside with water it'll help if you feel dizzy if you get water in it, same goes for the wind.

hth, get well soon

I found this for ya hth

Adult Ear Infection Prevention

Prevention of adult ear infection is simple. Nasal spray flushes out bacteria and pollutants which could cause build up and infection. Even allergens can be washed out. The important element necessary in effective nasal spray is xylitol, which naturally repels bacteria before it has a chance to settle into the nasal tissue.

Chewing gum containing xylitol may also loosen and relieve pressure in the ear while at the same time releasing xylitol into the mouth and throat and preventing bacteria to move up to the nasal passages and into the ear. Studies have proven the use of xylitol-rich gum reduces the risk of ear infection.

It's kind of odd to be honest.  Last sunday evening it was really painful and my ear was all gooey (sorry tmi) it was also hurting my throat, by the morning it had gone again and hasn't been too bad all week, not gooey anyway.  Think I might try the chewing gum and see what that does.  Thanks for asking and all for looking up some helpful tips.
