Eds and I are off to the docs. He was diagnosed with suspected asthma 6 months ago but I weaned him off the inhaler and tablets and he was fine. However if he gets a cold he cant shake it from his chest. For the past 3 night none of us have spelt with Eds coughing.

On top of that him and DH ate dodgy eggs yesterday and had poorly tummys. Now Eds has really bad nappy rash, with actual broken skin, and screams his head off when I change his nappy. All he does is cry saying 'No mummy, no mummy' I feel so sorry for him.

Hopefully the docs can help him and we can sleep easier tonight.

Aww poor little man, are you using a barrier cream for him, just to try keep some of the urine off the sores. If he has a problem with asthma, I wouldnt recommend you give him tixylix or anything for his cough. I found these made Joshua's chest complications worse, even months after I had got him off the inhalers. I always used peadiatric simple lictus for Joshua and that did not aggrivate his chest. Maybe Eds could do with the brown inhaler over the winter just to prevent anything getting on his chest.

Hi hun can't help with the asthma but cover his bum with vasaline it'll stop the wee stinging as much and will allow the skin to heal.

Good luck at the docs and i'm so sorry again

Well that was a pointless trip!

Dr listened to his chest and apparently its beautifully clear (of course he didn't cough once in there) so said it wasnt asthmatic and that I was doing the right things and to prop him up at night, use vapour pub and give him steamy baths.

She did write me a prescription for Metanium which is good as I was running out anyway so saved me buying any.

Aww bless him, hope he feels better soon and that you all get some sleep!  Lewis has a cough at the moment, dosing him up on medised and using a calpol plug-in vapouriser during the night.

I use drapoline on Lewis's bum, which you can get from Boots etc, and I swear by it.  It is expensive but Im only on with the second pot since he was born!!

Keep us informed on Ed's progress and give him a huge big cuddle off the Davis clan!!

Nikki xxxx

Thanks guys.

I havent tried a vapour plug in, I'll have a look. I use the chest rub, medised, benilyn cough and cold etc for him. TBH he seems much better tonight, much less coughing - hopefully it'll continue.

I've always found metanium brilliant for his bum so I'll stick with that. Especially seeing as I now know my GP will write a prescription for it!

Ooooo MAdz, I would recommend the vapour plug in!  It's fantastic (well it was for my 2)  I used it last year when I couldn't find anything else suitable, and they both woke up without too much in the snotty nose department.  However, if his cough hasn't cleared up within 7 days then get yourself back to the docs, as Fred had a really clear chest at one point, but a week later I was bothered, took him back in and it had gone onto his chest, more because I couldn't clear it totally!  Hope the little man is feeling well soon.
