Ive always suffered with really bad coughs (I have coughing fits that bring up sick or blood) So Im pretty much used to them but when Im pg they are so much worse. These fits were the reason why my waters broke before I was ready for labour with Zarah. Normally Im put on a suppressant which totally stops me from coughjing I cant even clear my throat but because it contains codeine its a no no in pg. Im now into week 5 of having a cough and its awful now Im in the last trimester. Every time I cough I almost wet myself and have had a few leaks, so Im wearing tenas (yukky things) and I cant even take any cough medicine. Ive had enough at the mo and want it gone, at least until the babys here and then I can take cough mixtures!
Sorry for the moan!

Hi hun

Don't be sorry for the moan, it's a pain in the bum when you can't take something your used to, ( i know that sounds selfish) but at least there is a valid reason for the no no approach.

I'm just trying to brain storm a bit now for you.......

Have you tried warm drinks like warm ribena or plain tea? Have you tried avioding milk, youguarts and cheese (dairy products) and chocolate as these all increase the production of catarh (sp?) (or so i was told), it did make a difference when i avioded them......

Sorry not much help really but might be worth a try.... i'm sure other's might have suggestions or ideas.

Hope things settle down for you soon hun xx

I had that debilatating cough about a month ago. Had to sleep sitting upright, even then still coughed, with a cough sweet in my mouth. Someone said to me that their waters broke when they had a cough like mine. So I went to the doctor who said "you don't need anti b, just take an over the counter remedy." I reminded him that the reason my stomache distended so much was because I was 26 weeks pregnant . Just had to put up with it. I had to leave the room I was in everytime I coughed as once I started i couldn't stop and it was so bad everyone stared at me.  Anyhow it has eventually cleared up but I do know how you feel as it was awful. It totally floored me.

Someone else told me the same thing about milk, cheese and chocolate, especially avoid them at bed time.

Hope you get better soon.

Having a cough is bad enough at the best of times never mind when you can't do anything about it.  No idea what to suggest sending soothing vibes your way!
