I don't even know what a Nintendo DS is!  Seriously I don't.

The daycare the boys go to has recently acquired a pc, but it is used as an education tool.

I'm going to be strict with my kids.  I don't even like the idea of children having tellies in their rooms.  I think it takes away the interaction between child and parent. Tell me what a Nintendo DS is and I will give my view-lololo.

Meanwhile I'll just grumble about the techological nuisances that are bestowed on our children.

I know, best get my hot choc and slippers on.

5 year old? I cant imagine Joshua asking for anything like this anytime soon. I certainly wouldnt give Joshua one, but then he isn't interested in that type of thing suppose I would have to reconsider if it was his thing.

I am putting a tv in his room , but it wont have an ariel, it'll be for dvd's only, and he is allowed dvd's from time to time and he likes to use mine so that he has his own space, so I'll be controlling when it goes on and it'll not be any different from the arrangements we have now lol

I dont see the harm in them, its not like they are going to be allowed to play on it 24 hours a day, just like they wouldnt be allowed to watch tv 24 hours a day. Harry plays on his GBA, besides me, showing me his skills and gives him something interesting to concerntrate on, which in my book is a bonus for him.

I've already bought the brain training for me, so i can play when he is in bed.

Zoe, have you not seen them advertised on tv?  Nicole kidman and Zoe ball are features on a few of the ads?

We got Ellis one for her birthday in April she is 6

She loves it and is getting really good at the games now

She has the Big Brain Academy and we play it together and it is
really good

I bought the brain training for me and its fabby

I have no problem with Ellis using hers at all - shes not using it all the
time and some of the games are pretty educational

Good thing is when family ask me what to get her for presents I say
a game for it and its always a winner

If only!  Sorry, Rin I don't get much chance to watch TV, except for an hour an evening.  It's on but I'm usually doing chores or on here.  Besides, I find most progs pants hence the internet addiction.

Will watch out for the advert.  Am intrigued now.

lol...tasja loves hers and uses it when shes allowed to.  Mostly its the brain one and the puppy game that she plays..and she shares it with isla so its funny watching the two of them trying to train a puppy on the sofa with it lol.

Tasja has a telly in her room..but with no ariel, it was used just for videos.  She had the telly in her room from when she was about 4 ish..but only really started using it in the last year or so.  Shes not allowed it on before she goes to bed..and shes not allowed it on first thing in the morning.  We got her a dvd player for her birthday and tbh its only ever used on weekends when the girls want to go upstairs for a bit.  They both curl up on tasjas bed and watch a film.

We are getting isla a telly for christmas for her room..and again no ariel, well not til shes older...and when we move well consider putting sky into tasjas room..but she will be nearly 10 by then.  Tasjas old video player is going to go in islas room...and tasja keeps her dvd player.  Ive got loads of disney videos and dont want to throw them out and dont want to get the same films on dvd...so if they want a video then its into islas room...and if they want a dvd then its into tasjas room....but most of the time we choose a film all together and all snuggle up on the sofa to watch it all together.

Sorry zo...but i dont agree with you on the detracts from time thing with parents.  But thats just me...but we all have our own opinions and we all do what we each feel is right for our monsters.

Lots of replies. Thanks ladies.

Anyhow - update.

Bekah is not getting one for xmas. DH spoke to Bekahs friends dad who said she did not use the ds and they sometimes find themselves trying to persuade her to go on it . Hannah her friend was 6 a couple of months ago. We will leave it and if she is still asking for something like this when she is 7, 2 yrs time, then may reconsider.

Told her everyone has said Santa doesn't bring ds's to anyone under 7 so she can't get one this year. She replied " could she get a scooter that lights up then". Wasn't remotely upset, meanwhile I thought I would be breaking her heart!

So, I am quite happy at buying her much, much cheaper stuff, that will only be played with once and put aside!!

Thanks again ladies.

I just think it's sad, that's all.  Besides if like snuggling up in front of the telly you only need one!

Gosh, I'm a meanie mum, aren't I?

I don't like telly meself except for the news, a few soaps and docs that's my lot. But like you say, each to their own.

I'm actually trying to get rid of one telly because it's just there gathering dusk.

I would quite like one for me! lol

As for eds - I am more on Zoes point of view. I am very strict on TV time and would not let eds have a tv in his room, even for dvds or videos until he is in his teens at least. Its just my view I'm afraid. Eds and I do educational stuff on the pc and occasionally watch diggers on Youtube but thats it.
