well, good morning ladies..

im writing this from my  hospital bed, bored out of my mind. i knew 4wks strict bed rest would be difficult but i wasn't prepared for the utter humiliation involved in bed-pans.... esp when they load you up with lax to get theold  bowels moving - lol tmi, i know..

anyway, apparently when he removed the old plate my pelvis was moving around. two of the original screws had come through the bone  and as the gap wasnt closed properly, the graft was never going to work... it makes me damned angry though that i've been living in this amount of pain constantly, and i had the hysterectomy and all they had  to do was believe me and check the plate!! they always hadthe attitude that because the plate was fitted, then i was 'fixed'..

the op i've just had was quite a big one  and  took over 4.5 hours. he's now removed the old plate & graft, filed down the bone  on either side  of the symphsis until it bleeds with fresh bone. they took a chunk of bone from my hip, used that to fill the 'gap'  and then they've put two plates across the front.  at the  back, they've put in 4 huge  (and i mean huge!) screws through my SI joints to stabalize that too.. (it's only a temp fix.  if it helps, then i've to go in to have a graft on there too but as it's a huge op on its own, then were just waiting to  see and i'll come back  in for that).  early  signs so far are pretty good as i'm taking less painkillers than i did before the op..the real test will be when i start weight bearing again which won't be for  another 2.5 wks (then i'm allowed to stand up - whehey).

i know this was a big operation and it'll be a long  and slow  recovery but if it means i can get my life back and live relatively pain free, then it'll have been worth it in the end..   I just need to egt through this stage of utter boredomand try to keep my spirits up.. it was my youngests b/day the other day and it really broke my heart that i wasn't there (she ws only 5) but I'm determined to get home  for  xmas and i'll have loads more to make it up to her..

TO THOSE OF YOU LIVING WITH THIS CONDITION, I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY  - KEEP FIGHTING! YOU KNOW YO'RE BODY AND WHEN THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG SO YOU NEED TO KEEP GOING AND ASKING FOR REFERRALS UNTIL  YOU ARE BELIEVED. I ENDED UP GOING THROUGH 5 CONSULTANTS  UNTIL I FOUND THIS ONE.. NOT EVERYONE WILL NEED SURGERY OF THIS LEVEL BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO JUST SUFFER...

What an ordeal you've been through, but hopefully it's all worth it.  Just try to get through these two weeks and I really hope you'll be back home for Christmas.  Have you got loads of trashy novels and celeb mags to get you through?

Take care, and big hugs!

What an op to go through. Glad you're less sore than before already - that's great. Was wondering how you were getting on. Hope the days pass really quickly until you're home again.

Big gentle hugs

xxx
