My little boy didn't.

Max is 4. My mum was explaining to him that it was Jesus' birthday and that he was so special we celebrate by giving and receiving presents.

Max ponders this and replies 'oh, but I don't know Jesus, he hasn't invited me to his party so I won't need to get him a present, will I Nanna'?

Out of the mouths of babes...

I think its once there at school and start learning their first christmas nativity play, that they then get the real meaning of christmas.
My kids school always starts Reception off with a propper old fashioned nativity play, which is a great way of teaching them all about Jesus and why we celebrate it.

Up until then, none of mine understood either.
Bless his little cotton's though

I've told Ben that its Jesus' birthday and he wants to make a birthday cake to take to church on Christmas day lol! I think its important that our lo's know what its all about, as the true meaning of Christmas is rapidly being lost!

I never actually thought about them not understanding!  However isn't the Christmas cake good enough to pass off as Jesus birthday cake?

Joshua couldnt really handle the information last year but he hated most aspects of Christmas. This year he is loving the magical side to it, and has also been learning the religious side at school which he seems to be comprehending. Im not sure if he has connected the 2, but he does have some understanding of them. He did a nativity last year which he didnt understand, but this year he is playing a shepard and seems to understand much more about his role in the navitity and what its about. Bless max hehe, they say some great little lines dont they lol
