I know it's very early day's but i was wondering weather or not to find out the sex of my baby.

I found out with Rachel and I loved being prepared.

What are the chances the doctors get it wrong ?

Has any one left it as a surprise and what would be your advice be ?

Hi hun

With my first i didn't want to know, to make it easier etc, but with my second i choose to find out (it also depends on your hospital's policy where you get scanned as to whether they will let you know the sex).

I made this decision on the pre-tense that my son was 4 and wanted both, he came to the scans and we where horrified to realise he wanted one of each, but it made it easier to explain and pre-pare him, get him involved in the names etc knowing, and with the problems i had it was a relief him knowing.

It's a hard decision to make..... i'd first check with the hospital if they let you know, then make the decision as it would be horrible to make this difficult decision and not be able to get the answer.

My hospitals policy is not to tell the sex, however I had made my mind up at the start that it would be a suprise. I wanted that moment where someone lifted my baby and said, its a boy/girl or I could find out myself. It was easy as we just painted the room neutral and bought neutral clothes. As soon as my mum heard I'd had a boy she rushed out and bought loads of blue outfits. I was never tempted.

I am not sure the way it works in England but in Ireland you either go public or private. When you go private you have the same doctor all the way true and you get scanned more ofter. I don't think you have to go to the hospital for scanning just your doctor when your private who has his own clinic. This is the way it worked the last time but since I have no other choice but go with a new doctor this time I am not sure weather he will tell me or not. I always just assumed he would if I asked him ???????

We found out this time and are rather hoping the sonographer was correct lol!

I am 25 weeks today and found out at my 20 week scan!

We chose not to find out with DD and it was such a struggle for me as I need to know everything!

xx B xx

Plus we could get rid of all of DD's baby clothes we had hoarded in the loft!

I didn't want to know when I was pg with Becca - and it was the hospital policy not to tell when I was pg with Ruthie. It was lovely having the surprise when they were born.

When I was pg with Cameron they had changed their policy, so I decided to ask (especially since Gav was keen for a boy).

xxx

I didn't find out with Ben, and don't think I would if I had another. I like the surprise.

Found out with my first, ds, but couldn't find out with dd as they couldn't see the heart propally, so the last thing i thought of was, what sex is the baby and in the end all turned out ok and had a nice surprise too, if i had to do it again i wouldn't want to know.

I thought I would have liked a suprise, and I was convinced I was carrying a girl.  DH and I sat down and discussed it and decided that if the sonographer would tell us, we would like to know.  It also made this easier for decorating the nursery, buying clothes etc.

As I have a complicated medical history (understatement of the year!), I was scanned on a regular basis, but we didnt find out the sex until I was 28 weeks cos Lewis wouldnt play ball and kept his legs well and truly crossed!!

I had two more scans after we found out and I got the sonographer to hone in on his bits just to make sure she was right!!  I do, however, realise how incredably lucky I was to have all of those scans and most mums arent so lucky.

At the end of the day hunny, it is up to you to do that, and if I have another child we will be finding out the sex as I think it helps enormously with all of the preparation of his/her arrival.

However, as Madz quite rightly said, its easy to get everything in neutral and plumb for a suprise when your lo finally makes an appearance!!

Good luck on whatever you decide hunny xxxxx

i found out with lotte, came to the conclusion that it would be a suprise wether we found out or waited. and what a nice suprise it was too, i secretly wanted a little girl. will do the same this time. its personal choice i think. I needed to know to make it all seem that little bit more real.

good luck
