I am fast losing my temper with Eds. He just cant get out of the putting everything in his mouth stage. Hes not as bad as a baby and its worse when he's tired but he just seems to stand chewing whatever he is holding. As he gets older this is becoming more of a problem as his toys are less sturdy. I had to confiscate all his puzzles yesterday as he chewed a piece of his new peppa pig puzzle and ruined it.
Is it normal for him to still be like this (he's 2yrs, 8mths) and how can I stop him???

Yup totally normal. Actually I think breastfed babies are worse for putting things in their mouth probably something to do with oral gratification. Hayley never really did it but Fran and Ols both do it constantly. Ols has also chewed a few jigsaw puzzles and ruined them. I don't think he even realises he is doing it most of the time, other times he does it on purpose for attention. Fran is nearly 15 and I still often catch her with things in her mouth. All you can do is constantly tell him to stop doing it and make sure there is nothing around he could accidently swallow.

Joshua still chews everything and he is 4yrs7mths! I put it down to his back teeth coming through, he's not grumpy just chews everything lol Even if he has nothing to to chew he'll pull his coat or top up and chew the corner of that. Like Sam says just keep telling him no and hopefully he'll stop, wish Joshua would he ruins clothes lol

Of course, it's normal.
Me being me I tell Tom that if he chews his toy it may get sucked down his throat and he could die. I go all graphic and explain how he won't see his brother, mummy and nanna anymore. This cause and effect works for Tom. I've never fluffed anything up in cotton wool, but then that's just me.
Luckily, he grew out of it pretty early and he was breastfed too so not sure that theory stands.

All of mine were breastfed and all three still suck whatever....coat zip, sleeve of jumper, fingers, pencil cases, you name it, they ve sucked/chewed at it! You could try sprinkling tobasco sauce on the things he chews most!!! That might stop him!!! just have a glass of water to hand!!!
I also tried a trick used in dog training!! I had a water sprayer, you know the lil plastic bottles that you squirt the tomatoes with? Meg went through a stage of chewing the corners off board books, when she was 5 I might add, so I would creep up and sray her with it!! It only took a few times of a squirt in the face and she stopped doing it!!! It takes the dogs a bit longer, but it does work!!

I love the water sprayer idea! lol
Tabasco wouldnt work, eds has the same taste as his daddy and me, hot spicy food!
At least I'm not alone, my friends daughter doesnt seem to do it at all so I was starting to think eds was regressing a little but you ladies have all put my mind at rest!
I just wish he'd stop chewing the top of his coat so hes freezing cold!
